Email Spam Bans Rolling Out

Seen this floating around LinkedIn this week (photo attached) - curious to get the WR thoughts on the new crackdown of Google & Yahoo.

  • Has your ops/enablement team said anything about this? What's the plan?
  • Second q - do people still use Yahoo email?!

Interesting to see the 5k cap is for all emails in your organization, imagine smaller companies won't register but can see larger companies starting to shake a bit. Will Google have to roll out a new enterprise sales tier to allow more sends / with some sort of flag or badge on your profile as an outbound spammer?

TLDR: Google/Yahoo limiting email sends to 5k/day, including sales, marketing, internal, to reduce spam. What's the industries answer?

I'm sure organizations will be able to pay to get around this, much like everything else.

Money talks. Always.
I do wonder how this will work for companies that have tens of thousands of employees though, given that it includes emails sent via any method. My immediate thought would be to see my first sentence.

I wonder how they came up with 5,000 as the magic number.

Exactly as suspected. Seems arbitrary, particularly given your example of large corporations with thousands of employees.
I'm visualizing dystopian rationing lines for emails, people waiting to plead their case that the email to the CEO of x company just has to get through...and bargaining on the black market to overcome their measly allocation of 1/2 email every other day...

Limits only encourage new work arounds. Someone will come up with a solution to this - and probably already has.

have seen the influencers talking about spinning up multiple email domains, how marketers use them to "warm up domains" to do this. could .. this be.. an opportunity? (insert butterfly pokemon meme)

This is going to be crazy, because I assume some major organizations will be over the .3%.
What is going to happen to SDR teams? This is going to be interesting

As a salesperson I think this is completely fine (and welcomed).

Iโ€™m more concerned with how they would define โ€œabuse complaint,โ€ knowing prospects think everything violates CAN-SPAMM and will hit the report button before the unsubscribe.

I used to work at Outreach in their SDR org (both as an IC and a manager). I'll be curious how the company survives this as so many of their largest customers will have to limit their use of the platform so dramatically.
