False Sense of Hiring

Is it me or are other getting the sense that companies say they are hiring and somewhat engage in the hiring process but never hire anyone?

Are they(Companies, not Bravado) lying to us about the amount of jobs available?

Recruiting might be looking for candidates for roles not funded but will be in the future.

I would assume hiring managers wouldn't go through numerous rounds of interviews and get their director to help interview if they don't plan to hire anyone

Don't assume shit Kosta...there's plenty of horror stories where this exact shit happens. 🤷‍♀️

I have said before, there are companies which always keep an open position ad on their website to see what comes in. Its not that they are actively hiring, but if a golden candidate comes their way, they can grab that person.

I am trying to hire, but we know that hiring the wrong person is worse than not hiring anyone. Hence, where I am today.

Exactly. Some companies take an extremely long time to decide. Onboarding is expensive!

I know when we were hiring a couple months back, we took our time interviewing because we really just wanted to find the right person for the role. So the same position was posted for a couple of months, but we were just continuously interviewing.

And this in addition to what FinanceEngineer said - you want to hire the right person, which can take some time. Hence the position remaining open for a while.

Some JDs state that they are looking to fill future roles. I tend to think applying for those makes a statement. "I'd like to work there. I'm willing to wait." Don't dismiss those. But yeah... any recruiter worth their salt needs a bench. You might be finding some of that.

I think there is extreme caution in hiring right now, I personally have even seen postings to "get into their applicant pool for future opportunities" as well
