Fellow AE is going rogue.... on my accounts

This is a new AE who has been with the company for a year but recently promoted to SDR. Meanwhile, I'm 10+ years of experience and 4+ years in the space but 3 months in to the company

They're the only SMB rep which has a cutoff based on employee count.

The guy taking over and actioning anything that comes in with intent without checking the actual company size... which, whatever. I guess I appreciate the hustle?

But also he's actively prospecting into accounts that I purposefully put in my name and have started to work with my BDR, that are several hundred employees out of his segment.

It's a small company. Series A. Handful of people on the sales team that are all trying to build this together. But there's definitely already not enough opportunity to go around. I don't want to rock the boat.

But I want to fucking rock the boat. I've tried bringing it up to him directly but we've had several unpleasant encounters so far where he gets super aggressive

Adding a poll to see what others would do but wanting to have a discussion around this

Small team but fellow AE going rogue in my territory. What would you do?

@TheEnglishMajor remove โ€˜tattleโ€™ from your lexicon. Do you like losing rigged games? Nobody does.

Youโ€™ve done all appropriate steps. Frankly, after that initial conversation with the other rep (which is in and of itself a courteous move), you owe them exactly nothing.

You know what the best way to respond to aggression is? Patience. Do not let it rattle you.

They are clearing ignoring the rules of engagement. Itโ€™s time to escalate, and if management does nothing then you are in a toxic work environment - consider leaving.

Escalation =/= tattling.

Handle it calmy and maturely, but handle it.

Or consider giving them a taste of their own medicine...a lot of times i keep accounts off the books and put them on hubspot in the latest of stages. But i always mention them on my 1on1 meetings so rhey are aware.

Then i go after the accounts just for the annoyance. Try do that while considering leaving.

If the rules of engagement are clear and this guy is stepping on your toes, worst thing you can do is let it slide and set a precedent that youโ€™re willing to be walked on.

That being said, you have to address it strategically because my first instinct would be to rage about this and thatโ€™s not productive either.

If passions are high, take time to calm down and then address it with leadership.

Great call out. Rules of engagement are fairly clear enough, especially since they are accounts that I just requested be put in my name because they were unowned, I saw a path in, and literally no one was working them. I make sure I'm not being a dick to my fellow sales team.

Emotions are definitely high today so sitting on it, but thinking of just sending it to our RevOps leader and asking him to address it based on rules of engagement...

Get someone involved to talk it through, try not to be calling them out. But using this as a reference to confirm territory rules. And nip this in the bud

Step one, talk to the rep in question (you've already done that). Step two, involve your leadership team.

Oh hell no, thatโ€™s not tattling. Thatโ€™s your territory, your patch, YOUR MONEY. Sounds like your company is not run like the Wild West where anything goes (thank god) so yes, get management involved. Dude needs to stay in his lane.

What you allow is what will continue. Any future conversations with this douchebag should be in the presence of another person. Go over his head and nip it in the bud.

This is a HUGE issue as it might hurt your rep too. Always offer to make intros or even let sit in; but be there. Otherwise you lose control and possibly credibility.

If they close will you get paid?

But as others said absolutely involve management. They're there to mediate.

Youโ€™ve already done the right thing by bringing it up directly with them. If the problem continues, it is time to bring this up to either a manager or the sales ops team to handle.
