Finding a Job in Tech Sales

Hello team,

I am new here and excited to be a part of this community. A friend introduced me to this platform and I am looking forward to learning from all of you.

I have a question about breaking into a tech sales career. I have been working as an operations specialist for five years. Last year, I tried my luck at building my own SaaS company, but unfortunately, things did not go as planned. However, I learned a lot from the experience and now I want to pursue a career in sales.

I recently completed a sales development course from SV Academy and I am now looking for my first opportunity to get my feet wet in tech sales. I do not have any prior experience in this field and I was wondering what my chances are in the job market for newbies like me.

What do you think I should do to increase my chances of landing a job in tech sales? Thank you in advance for your help and advice.

Network. Easily the best way. Saas market is rough right now so keep that in mind

Two guys are told they will meet in a week for a tennis match. Neither of them have ever played tennis. Competitive as they are, they accept. One goes to the library and reads every book ever written on tennis. The other buys a racket and goes to the park. Gets in every game he can.

Whoโ€™s gonna win the match?

Point is, if itโ€™s not clear by now: Your SV SD course may be helpful, but it wonโ€™t mean shit until you get on the court. Just get in- anywhere, anyhow. Phone a friend, beg a stranger. The first part of the grind you want to get into starts now.

I'm having trouble finding a tennis court since most of them are gated and require residency. In the meantime, I'm reading up on tennis to improve my skills.

You may also want to use the search - this has come up a few times, and you may be able to find some good nuggets of information there.
Also check out the Academy here - it focuses on tech sales.

Finally, itโ€™s been said: networking will be your best bet. Youโ€™ll most likely need to start at BDR or SDR and work your way up. As has also been said, itโ€™s a tough market right now, so youโ€™ll have to keep at it.

If you are open to start-ups go to different VC websites and find SaaS companies they have recently funded. New funding = hiring.

Another tip is Built In - its how I got my first SDR job. They are in different cities but you can also toggle remote and check other cities. Built In Chicago, SF, LA, NYC, Austin, Boston, etc. https://builtin.com/
