Question

Currently at a SaaS company but a really good hardware company reached out about an AE role. Could it hurt my career going to hardware/product for a bit? The money is in SaaS, but this is also a good opportunity.

Margins are better in SaaS, and you don't have to deal with supply chain issues.

It will not hurt you. One is not better than another. Are there issues on both sides? Sure. But an AE is an AE.

Hardware is still a good spot, especially if its a good product and good company to work for. If you ever returned to SaaS, you still have the SaaS experience on the resume to make an easy transition

I have gone back and forth throughout my entire career. I'm more focused on the niches I sell into rather than what I'm selling. My employers know I have ample experience selling to X & Y, which is why they want me, regardless of the widget.

I dont think it should hurt you especially if you do well, and the fact that you are in Saas now should make it easier to get back in if you wanted to.
