Have an introductory call with the Salesforce recruiter. How should I proceed next? I'm keeping my hopes in check.

"Thank you very much for your email regarding this opportunity!

Apologies for the delay, we are currently going through a reprioritization of needs internally and we are not actively hiring for this role until we get approval from finance!

I'd be happy to have an introductory call to share more about the role with you at your convenience which you can book using this link

I'm suggesting the intro call so we can add you to the pipeline when the time comes again to start interviewing if that works for you."

This was the response that I got to the email I sent. How should I proceed next? I would really really really appreciate some thought-out structured responses with next moves. What might they say and ask? What should I ask?

Thank you in advance and thanks to everyone who asked me to shorten my email and gave me tips. It worked guys.

Btw the person who referred me asked me to keep my options open based on this.

Sorry about the hiring freeze, but get that meeting booked.

It sounds like he wants to tell you about the role, and in the process learn a little about you.

Listen. It's ok to be enthusiastic, but listen more than you talk. Ask about the role, the expectations, what a day in the life of the person in the role is like.

The recruiter most likely has done this many times before and is going to be very practiced. Outline your questions in advance so you have them ready to go, and be prepared.

Your #1 goal for the meeting is to get yourself on that list for interviews once the hiring freeze is over. Odds are very good that the recruiter won't have a specific date for finance to approve the role to be open, so next step will be to get appropriate timing for you to reach out for status on the role opening, whether that's a week or two (or more) out. Even if the recruiter tells you that he will reach out, he may not do so, so it's in your best interest to be in charge of the follow up.

And your last sentence: by options open - does your friend who referred you mean to look elsewhere? Because that will be my suggestion as well. While Salesforce may be your dream company, if they're not hiring, they're not hiring, and you should find somewhere in the meantime. That way when a position does become available, you have even more by way of experience to offer.

Thank you @Sunbunny31I am already looking at this company called Vena solutions in Toronto. The culture seems to be good based on what I see online. The product they sell is Financial planning software, so a pretty exciting product and customers love it. But they also have a SOC report issue going on. That kind of put me off. But Im gonna go ahead and apply and see.

This is relationship you need to keep, even if you accept another role. If the goal is to work for a Salesforce this person is a key contact.

Get their feedback on roles they recommend, and if you see the role open up, shoot them a message.

As a previous SFDC AE, when finance freezes hiring they cannot move forward with offers. See if you can get they recruiter and to hiring manager, if they super-duper love you they might be selfish and push to get you in to fill their role.

RVPs (L1 Managers) might be resistant though this time of year but they might be able to push a bit to get a hire in, especially if they are severely understaffed and getting pressure from their L3 leader.

L1/RVPs quotas are 80% of their teamsโ€ฆ as an example, if a RVP has 10 slots in their patch, and only has 5 slots filled next fiscal, they donโ€™t get a quota increase if they hire AEs after quotas are out in place and their quota is based on those 5 filled seatsโ€ฆ At least my OU was like this when I was there. It could totally be different for other operating units

Iโ€™m 6 months out from Sfdc so things could be diff now and take this with a grain of salt. Hope this context helps.

Tl;dr - have the meeting and shoot your shot.

Ex sfdc here.
Depending on how specific your application was, Iโ€™d recommend keeping an open mind to a different part of the business (ie, commerce cloud even if you applied for a core gig)
Iโ€™d also recommend understanding who potential hiring managers are and connecting with them too via LinkedIn, even if there is no progression with the recruiter.
Sounds like everything is pretty frozen over there at the moment but it inevitably will loosen up in Feb and being top of mind for the hiring manager is your best bet id say

Don't be surprised on the intro call if she or he asks for your college GPA...really threw me off when I interviewed with them a while back

I was hired at a really good start up about 4 months ago for a SDR role that I was told I wouldnโ€™t be in for very long. Theyโ€™re gonna go public in the next year, but Zoom Info reached out to me about an Account exec position. Now Iโ€™m wondering if I should take the guaranteed route to AE or let my shares vest and get to AE at the place that took me. Usually I wouldnโ€™t consider jumping so quickly, but AE is AE.

I just have to tell someoneโ€ฆ For some perspective, our overall avg order size is about 12k and yesterday I closed a 130k deal and another 50k at my next appointment. I am excited as the year has been pretty tough in my market and big sales like this help remind me I am good at this! ๐Ÿ‘
