Hiring managers, how much better does 3 years in an AE role look compared to 2?

Or does it even matter?

To clarify, I mean 3 years in a specific AE job at one company, not of total AE experience.

That’s 50% more time/ experience. Presuming they had good results and attainment there could be a significant difference.

In an AE role sum total, or at a single company?
One shows that you're an AE, the other shows your value to a company and/or your success.

Single company. Ive been at mine about 2 years 8 months, been thinking at this point it may be in my best interest to stay til I hit the 3 year mark here. My last AE job, which was my first, I was only there about 16 months.

2 years is not very long in a role. It takes time to build up confidence and a process as an AE. Also
Matters at how many companies in those years, product sold, ACV, how technical you are, where you are located, how many deals you sold, did you hit quota.. hiring managers don’t only care about time in role but that is one major point out of MANY.

Anything under 5 I view as the same - basically entry level.

5-10, then greater than 10.

Something about 4 years in my head that’s a baseline for “stable and capable”

I'm not a hiring manager, I was recently reading an article about attractive candidates and the big thing he pointed out was having one stint that was 3-5 years makes you stand out, you obviously sold and did well enough to be around and it eases any concern about ability in the next company.

At 2-3 years it would come down to results for me. Even then I’m going to pick apart your skills to determine if your success was result of you or simply circumstance.

Eh if that’s the reason they give you for not getting the job, they’re lying.
