How Can I Get In To Climate / Carbon Tech

What's up y'all - I've worked my way up from SDR to AE (with a cup of tea as an SE) at a public company over the last 3.5+ years.

I've noticed that it can be easy to get "stuck" in an industry so I'm looking to transition from selling AdTech to selling Carbon / Climate software solutions.

Understanding that the space is relatively new and I'm relatively green in my career, I'm curious if there's anyone here that:

a) Made the transition from another industry to carbon / climate and

b) Can share some insight into how they made the move

I don't have the best network in the climate space so I'm putting a bat signal out here for some tips and tricks, things to look out for as I plot my move.

Appreciate the help in advance!

FWIW - the grass ain't greener even when it's green field. There's AgTech, Climate Tech, and maybe you've heard of this one, AI.

There will soon be AI/MLAgTech/CarbonCreditTech/Sustainable CornTech, Open Source/CornHoleTech, OpenSoreTech and all kinds of sweet opportunities with untested PMF.

You're at a public company selling AdTech with 3.5 years behind you?

Shhhhh. Quiet the voice that is telling you to run.

The climate/carbon world is an interesting one to say the least. Is there something specific you’re looking for? A lot of software in this sort of space is being generated by manufacturers and companies that already exist, that being said I’m sure there are start ups out there.

Tracking things like climate affects and carbon usage right now is a very particular skill, it’s very project, company, and application driven, and it’s also extending beyond the building operation but also to how it is built.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
What I would do:

Identify 5-10 companies I'd like to work for and call up their VP Sales. Ask that person what they are looking for in their sales people. End it with 2 questions - are they hiring and can you send a resume over.

Many people appreciate the effort.

Start with your network, any of your previous peers make the switch? if so buy them coffee and see if they can refer you.

If no one in your network is in that industry, try making it a part of your outreach. start sending linkedin invites to recruiters and managers
