How do I get started?

Title pretty much sums it up, though I will have to make a couple of points for clarification.

I don't live in the U.S. or any Western country - I have been in a sales based role for close to 2 years now though targeting the U.S. and U.K. market specifically, but it has been B2C deals for the most part, something which I'm not really fond of and I think it's high time I make the moved I'd envisioned for myself.

I have been looking into SaaS and software based sales roles, but it seems like I might not fit the bill for a lot of the qualifications these roles demand even though I've been taking the time out to work on the specific set of skills I'd need.

Anyone that has been through the same or similar situation and could offer advice? Or anyone that might have any piece of advice to share really, I'd appreciate it.

I know others have said it, but you NEED to change that title on resumes and probably LinkedIn as it makes 0 sense to the kinds of companies it appears you want to target.
MASSIVE red flag, and I don't understand how it could make sense anywhere.

Are you an assistant vice president or an assistant TO the Vice President?

Ah, sorry about the confusion. In my country and a few of the surrounding ones, sales reps make better base pay compared to their commissions, so whenever we receive a promotion (with an increase to our base pay), it comes with different titles for the same job but with a higher target.

It’s pretty much what you guys call SDRs, but I have no idea why we don’t call it that.

The misalignment in your title and experience is reason enough to get auto-declined from roles. I’d fix that.

Did I read this correctly?

Due to the country you live in, because you have a higher target you have been named an Assistant Vice President of a company, where you’re actually an SDR??

You’ve been played or you’ve played yourself sir

It’s common industry practice here. Don’t have the responsibilities of an actual AVP, just a higher target with better base pay.

Have no idea where you’re based but sure sounds odd. I get that you have a different title as you get more experienced, but SDR to Senior SDR makes more sense

Anyway, good luck!

After reading your replies, it still seems weird that AVP = SDR.
Regardless, try looking for some flex-type roles to gain experience and learn some B2B skills.

Yeah you’ve got to adjust your job title to be reflective of the actual job you are doing. In the US more times than not a VP applying for SDR role would be a red flag. It’s so rare that the title alone will get you screened out based on assumptions that you are over qualified, too expensive, or spam.

From your title it looks like you are an AVP. Are you exploring roles for the same/similar title?
