How do you like being onboarded? ๐Ÿง

When you're learning (or being forced to learn ๐Ÿ˜‚) a new SaaS tool, what is helpful for you to absorb the info and see value fast?

In my most recent venture, I'm onboarding Equity Sales folk in capital markets. Attention is short because they're brokering big deals in real time, so getting them fully adopted into the platform is difficult.

  • Do you like short, multiple onboarding sessions? Or one long session?
  • Do you prefer live training, or on demand?
  • Do you want 1:1 training, or group?

Help me help you ๐Ÿ’ฐ

What's onboarding? The last 2 companies I've worked for severely lacked in that department ๐Ÿ˜†

+1. They had some self onboarding which honestly doesn't work for a lot of people like me who need a structure. I know it's not the best model to have - relying on some other structure that's fool proof, while I am working on it; it didn't help me to just be left on my own lol.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
Preferably over a large bucket or cistern to make clean up easier.., oh wait thatโ€™s water boarded.

Not knowing whatโ€™s involved in your onboarding makes it difficult to provide advice, but from my experience you need to go through most it prior to letting them loose, otherwise you lose out on the opportunity to have their undivided attention.

Agreed on both counts.
For me, I like a mix of what was offered. Keeps things varied and from getting boring/stale.

You do an initial onboarding training day one before they get going
You come back and do more training afterwards in short sessions so they can get reminded and re trained after being in the job for a few months. Iโ€™m always a fan of live training but a mix with virtual is ok. 1:1 and in groups depending on training material and length

shadowing an existing reps demos and a few short onboarding sessions. Maybe some optional on demand training to learn more too

Answering :
1/ Short, multiple sessions please.
2/ Both. I need the basics to be live training, and then on-demand that I can watch to build up from my basics.
3/ Group trainings. I doze off or be toooo focused in 1:1.

1. I'll likely hate you for taking my time anyway, ha, so pick one. If you go over an hour though, it's too long. More than 2-3 sessions is too many sessions.
2. On demand, feels like these usually have a script and that keeps things more on track.
3. 1:1, I get to ask someone directly about the things I understood, didn't, etc. Helps me to get the info that I need quicker. Group training always devolves into arguments about how to sell/selling theories and that's super annoying and a waste of time.

Bit of a mix of 1:1 (have a buddy to ask dumb questions from), 1:1 with manager more often in the beginning and then virtual and live training in groups. On demand good too if you are a complete hopeless noob savage. Onboarding path of like 30 hiurs total with a certificate
