How soon is too soon to pull the plug?

Hi Everyone,

Earlier this year I got caught up in a layoff and after a few months off + a few months interviewing I got an offer that wasn't a top target, but I needed the base check/insurance at that point.

There are some concerning red flags very early. For one the other sales rep seems to be very stressed about hitting quota, and even concerned about job security after just 6 months, leadership seems to be uncertain on the best path forward for the team, and most concerning our manager has been putting deals in "commit" that are no where near closing which will reflect poorly on us.

Long story short, I'm getting a bit of buyers remorse early on and it seems like it might be a tough environment to hit quota at/ not the best place to work.

Is it a bad look to start interviewing for jobs only a few months into a new role?

To be honest, it can be an easier story to tell if it's this early. Sometimes easier after 4 months than 8 as you just realized it wasn't what was promised.

Do what you can, but start interviewing and just be honest about why you're exploring new opportunities and what you're looking for.

Hopefully it will prompt honest conversation that uncovers what the next spot will truly be like.

if you aren't 100% satisfied always keep looking and even if you are take a few here and there just to stay sharp

Always be looking for the next role, and use your current spot to position yourself for forward momentum and gain. Getting a better opportunity will always be a reason to move, just gotta put more effort out there now.

It's never a bad idea to keep exploring as you will have to find what best for you and not the world. You know it's not the one you wanted to join and now you also know that the environment is not motivating which means you will be only stressed (your story, other AEs' horror stories etc.).

you said it wasn't top target anyway, I just made a post about the same thing, check the comments on mine. Start looking else where til you get the job where you want

Always be looking! Life is too short! Before you know it you'll be pushing 60, cranky, and controlled by your better half. I could go on and on, but my wife is calling me... ๐Ÿ˜

I see it like this: the future is not here so you can't do anything about. The past is gone, you can't get it back, so no sense crying over spilled milk. The only thing you have is the present. It never too early or late to do what you feel is right. But you did say that you needed the base at this point, so my advise is ride this out, save some cash so that if the time comes you have some backup and always keep looking for the next opportunity. Truly I say all the best

You should always be open to other job offers on average people who switch jobs every 2 years make 50% more then those who don't

Gotta do what's best for you.
Admittedly I'm in month 7 at my new role and going through buyers remorse myself around similar factors (ex. uncertain path from leadership), and trying to figure out my next moves and when to start pursuing that.
