I don't think cold calls work as much these days! Don't kill me.

Unless your cold call opening statements are bomb, you have a night-DJ voice or your company is a big shot, I don't think cold calls are working as much.

Before you tell me how shitty a cold caller I am, or that I am doing something wrong - I know that already. I'm talking more as a cold call receiver.

Let me start here:

  • There are bots calling randomly with no qualification, no research done, no relevance most of the time. I got a call today from a BOT selling me WHEELCHAIR. Now you tell me why should I be needing a wheel chair, unless there's someone they appointed to break my legs when I step out.
  • I then got a call from a lady who called me to ask if I need pregnancy insurance cover. I freaked out so much that I took a test, just to be sure, because why on earth did I receive that call ? I asked the lady, rather politely, as to why she called me. And she went bazooka "MADAM THIS IS COMPANY POLICY TO CALL ALL WOMEN IN MY LIST. DON'T ASK ME, ASK THE FIRM. DON'T ARGUE". While she has a point, but wtf?
  • I don't think I have received a good cold call in ages now. That makes me pick up all unknown numbers with a frowning face and a sense of annoyance. If that's me (who's usually polite to cold callers), I am sure it's every second person out there.

Considering these points, I don't think cold calls will yield just the same result anymore. Blame them bots and automated dialers!

Your personal experience of being of the receiving end of cold calls is no indication that they donโ€™t work.

But your post reads more like a FB post than anything.

good cold calls work, bad ones don't. It's that simple!

I don't think cold calling is supposed to be a magic bullet that solves everything. When used as part of a multi-touch sequence that includes other avenues of communication (email, LinkedIn) the idea is that one of these touchpoints will resonate and lead to a meeting. You should do cold calling, but also combine it with other things.

I wanna play devil's advocate here. What if everyone is experiencing the same thing, terrible cold calls, so when you call and you're actually good they're refreshing to the prospect? And the call goes well?

Also, I can't get over that a bot would call and say "hello I would like to sell you...WHEELCHAIR"

That's hilarious.

Agree but the good thing is you still get results (though not the same as before)

So you obviously bought the wheelchair right? Howโ€™s it working with your new pregnancy insurance?

If you think bots are overwhelming the phones what do you think they're doing to email outreach?

Think the problem here is not cold calling, but LAZY cold calling. As with any sales channel, if you talk/write the same as everyone else, you're going to get lost in the crowd. Lazy email outreach or marketing is equally as ineffective.
