War Room Community Manager
In many companies (especially remote), itโ€™s a sin for an Exec / Manager to have an empty calendar. So they justify their role and existence (and that venti paycheck) by putting in useless meetings.

Because without excessive meetings itโ€™s impossible to be an effective, independent leader who is comfortable in a highly collaborative, ambiguous, fast-paced, inclusive, team-cultured, revenue focused, startup environment. So, donโ€™t be late.

100% agree with Gasty. Itโ€™s a way of pretending how busy you are. More busy = more productive (assumption). I have so many people in my company putting their calendar in private mode and they are booked 8 hours for the whole month ๐Ÿ˜‚

My CRO has been stopping other departments from wrapping the revenue team in meetings, especially if no agenda posted, and god does it feel good to see those things get scrubbed from the calendar.

Teams chat > meeting unless technical as hell lol.

Yeah, agree.
Tends to be too repetitive in discussed topics!
Maybe the best part of it IMO in a sh** day full of customer service calls with little to no sales ones that they burn time till my shift ends, instead of just having back to back calls in rush hours:)

There are meetings that can be slack messages. Honestly, a 5 minute phone call could replace an hour of frustration and back and forth on slack. So it depends

this is because people got used to scheduling mtgs during covid instead of stopping by people's desks for 5min.

too many people depend on meetings to create the value needed to justify their job

Time = money. Simple principle, especially in sales. I try to limit the number of meetings on my calendar (non-customer meetings) and focus on the activities that actually make money (The Pareto principle).

I think to answer your question people lack confidence in their skills and decision-making ability so they book a bunch of non-sense meetings so they can be assured "everyone is on the same page". Even though now days during those meetings that have nothing to do with you, everyone is on mute with camera off.

It's a problem.
