I have to rant. It's been tough and I'm still unemployed

It is a bit of a rant.

I got laid off last month. August 1st. I've been on the fucking hunt for like a month and a half now. Execuse my language but in Europe, son of a b-tches with no experience get to be Head of Sales, VP of Sales, Account Executive yet I've been getting rejected left and fucking right.

I've been a top performer, I crushed at every fucking company I worked at.

Yet, can't get a fucking proper job. I was earning 46k base as an SDR and now this piece of shits offering 40K at most as base to SMB, Account Executive.

I applied to 100s of job openings, I sent cold emails to hiring managers and their manager every fucking time, made a custom pitch deck, cold called.

I even built a fucking god damn website for myself. I get great reactions but they mean no shit.

Yet 00000000000 results.

Then I see sneak oil salesman like Trent Dressel on Linked In, getting attention and shit and it fires me up even more.

If I apply for Junior SDR roles, they offer 32K base, I ain't no way taking that shit. So they reject me because I want more.

Then if I apply AE positions, then they have another fucking excuse.

If I apply through recruiters, then they put me in first and then 1 month passes and these assholes coming to me with like, you were the first one and you are done with all the interviews so you have to wait for the others.

Like fuck all these Linked In gurus giving advice and shit. I tried every fucking thing out there and it doesn't fucking work.

#sorryfortherent but my family is on the line.

Because I am here on a visa, I can't even fucking work at McDonalds.

Any tips

I am so so sorry that you are going through this. I'm sure you would have exhausted most of the routes available.
I read somebody's post yesterday that Bravado was able to help 100s of sales folks land a fractional Sales role. @bravadoben is there something you can do here ?

sorry to hear that. Just a question, In which country do you live, where are you from and what kind of experience do you have. I can always check with some friends

I live in Netherlands, Amsterdam.

I have 4 years in Saas, all BDR - SDR roles but during one of my longest role, I also closed SMB accounts. Recently got an AE opportunity and I know I am ready for an AE role but the competition is tough now and Amsterdam is shit. If I was in London, I would have gotten a tole already.

I really appreciate it!

and you want a 46k base?

If it is an AE role, I am okay down to 40K base. I only speak English.

I donโ€™t think any of my friend would hire at that rate. You could check for remote roles in the UK? I know for a fact that a lot of the organisations there are still open to hiring remote.

You mean they offer lower? Thatโ€™s the crazy part. Whatโ€™s the point of being promoted and become an AE if the base is lower than 40K.

Thank you so much. I canโ€™t work remote jobs. Itโ€™s not okay for visa purposes

One of them could be interested but his budget is 30-35k and it's not a closing role.

Why can't you work remote from NL? as long as you're on a dutch payrole it should be fine.

35k is like a starvation level. I pay 1600 for rent every month and 42% income tax.

In Netherlands, there are no open remote roles.

The company has to be registered here Iโ€™m NL for it to qualify for my visa.

your marginal taxrate is 42% not your full tax rate right?

up until 37k you pay 19% in the netherlands

I mean I am at a point, I canโ€™t pay bills. Iโ€™d appreciate if you can reach out to your friend who is hiring. I will take any job.

Especially if the tax rate is 19%. I am all down for that.

No, I will do it now. The resume is not the issue because I reach out to every hiring manager and I received 99% great feedback and how I'd be great for the role but there is someone with more experience coming in every time

I needed to read this. My situation is. I moved from SDR to senior SDR and now AE at my current company and 1.5 years in. Ive previously been AE for a leading travel brand some years ago (not SaaS).

Like you, Iโ€™ve always been an overachiever in all my previous roles. Currently working as AE for a reseller which kinda sucks and have been on the lookout for my next AE role. 3+ months in and still no positive outcome.

Made it to some final stages (up to 6 different stages Inc presentations, role plays etc) and still no one willing to take a chance on me.

A good example - I will name drop. I interviewed for Vimeo, made it to 6 different stages, still wasnโ€™t selected.. As usual, I looked into other AEs current work history and best believe, a handful of them do not have the qualifications/experience that I have. Some have been XDR for less than 2 years and somehow are AEs. Makes me wonderโ€ฆ

To anyone in a similar situation like you, hang in there. It takes time and donโ€™t let any recruiter/hiring manager undermine your skills or how hard youโ€™ve worked to get to where you are today. Believe in your journey and trust your time would come...

It takes time to build on those sales experience and it only takes one company to believe in YOU.

Good luck to anyone else out there whoโ€™s struggling to land their next sales role.

I'm so sorry this is happening. It sounds like you're on the right path - SMB AE would be the logical next step for a SDR/BDR moving up.
Has the reason you've been given the same each time? "you don't have the experience?" If so, let's get ahead of that by sorting out how to proactively address that so regardless, you're the best candidate. I know you were going to post your redacted resume, so that's a good step to having us able to help.

Job hunting sucks, I know. You just have to keep after it.

And I totally get it when you rant about people with no experience getting the big jobs - I have often been left with head aching at dealing with those types.

You may need to get a job you don't want but then keep looking til you find what you want.

Why not take 32k job? You can always just downshift for a little while and work your way back up?

Also flatshare must be a thing. I've done that. Not that I enjoyed it but saved a shit ton in rent and lived in office and went out so it didn't bother me much sharing

I am married and have a dog. Also it is pointless but when in this fucking world I will have my own place if not at 26.

But gotta suck it up sometimes. Now I am ready to take any job but not 32k. It doesnโ€™t cover the rent and bills even. My wife is studying and canโ€™t work

You need 32k a year for the visa? Can't you talk to them and give evidence of your quota crushing and then get them to be more lenient?

I just have to tell someoneโ€ฆ For some perspective, our overall avg order size is about 12k and yesterday I closed a 130k deal and another 50k at my next appointment. I am excited as the year has been pretty tough in my market and big sales like this help remind me I am good at this! ๐Ÿ‘
