In person drops

I didn't see much content on this, and I'd be lying if I said I crushed it on the phones. I'm just an in person kinda gal, and the networking events are few and far between (but hopefully that is changing soon).

Who has done in person drop ins? What has been most successful?

I was brainstorming with someone at my firm who doesn't suck (and obviously not even remotely close to my region), and they suggested bringing coffee to jobsites. Printing off some industry relevant info with a cover letter of my testimonials. Donuts. Lunch. Lemonade on a hot day.

I mean, I spent all this money on plastic surgery. I shouldn't be hiding behind a desk.

Thoughts/advice/roasting welcome!

I used to bring Pizza to the IT teams. Those fuckers are always underfed and over worked and love pizza.

Nobody ever refuses pizza. I always send an email in advance (day before) and just say โ€œhey Iโ€™m dropping off some pizza for the team tomorrow, would love to chat. Hereโ€™s my number, Iโ€™ll call you when Iโ€™m there. Any particular types your team likes the best?โ€

yeah - that's basically what the not-shit person I spoke with yesterday said to do as well. Give them a heads up call first and say "I'd love it if you were there to meet you".ย

You can never go wrong with food.

I also carry bright office supplies in my purse for gatekeepers. Think gel pens, post-its, stuff like that. I slide it over while thanking them for doing me a favor.

It works ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Depending on when you're planning to do the drop ins, I've had success doing coffee jugs & donuts or bagels early in the morning- sometimes I even just left it with the front desk person with a quick note and it worked 80% of the time.

Think construction jobsites. All the workers show up around 7:30 and sit for a few before their 8am start. In most firms, the DM visits most of their sites during the day. It's why they're so tough to get on the phone.ย

Ahhh sure, sure. Okay hmmmmm... maybe an afternoon pick me up might work better then? Mini shooters later in the afternoon??

I think either could be successful tbh. The point is to get the DM to remember me. I have a feeling that any woman bringing coffee in the morning looking all cute will be remembered. At least I hope......

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Yes, I agree with your first comment haha

Sure! Even if you donโ€™t see the DM, make a good enough impression that the rest of the team suggests they get in touch with you!

Back in the payroll slinging days, pumpkin pie drops in November were killer. Just try to have fun with it and get creative based on sports or recent holidays etc. A lot of self deprecating humor can go far as well.
