Normal for this to happen?

Here is what happened...

A recruiter reaches out to me because I haven't changed my LI job status "open to work" and offers me a interview with a base that is 44% more than what im making and uncapped comissions.

Naturally, i say why not take the interview...

He puts me in touch with the hiring company CEO and we talked for 2 hours...i told him i haven't updated my LI yet but i just joined a new company a month ago... he was like but would you join ours...i say this discussion will only be on the table if there is an offer ill entertain in but right now im happy where I am.

Next day my boss/co-founder of the company reaches out to me and was like Yo are you unhappy here? I say no, what's up? He says well i know you took an interview yesterday and wanted to know what is wrong for you to entertain this in the 1st place and if anything needs to change.

I say look, im happy with the environment here and i don't know what conversation happened but for my they reached out with an interesting offer so i welcomed to have that conversation doesn't mean that i want to leave or anything...ive been around my previous company for 5 years doesn't mean i never took an interview...for me i like to know what's out there and that's all. He was like i totally get it...im just worried because we are a startup and i want your assurance that you are committed with us...im like look im not in the business of hypotheticals i had a conversation and thats that...naturally we sell to HR teams and at some point ill make an impression to them thay they will try to recruit me or any of our colleagues i wouldn't be concerned since i was the one who reached out to join you not the other way around.

Question tho...should the ceo have reached out to my recent company for reference? I think that was low because he whther or not intentionally put me in a compromising position without sending an offer...

Also what would you do if I get an offer based on what that hiring CEO did vs the reaction of my current employer? Anything worrying or is that like their right to ask my current new employer for references where they could have asked my previous one or checked my linkedin for recommendations?

So the CEO of the hiring company reached out to your current CEO?

After you said you'd only been there a month, but you were happy?

What was his goal there? That makes no sense.

Yeah sounds fishy. He must have been very interested esp since this new job wasnโ€™t on LinkedIn. CEO would have needed to personally dig - what serious CEO has time (or audacity) for that lmfao. @SalesPharaoh IMO you dodged a bullet

Yes, the hiring CEO reached out to my current CEO who i report too directly for a reference, and whom i work for since last month only.

I don't know...sabotage?

But then why would you want to go work for him? I mean, if heโ€™s that tone deaf or inconsiderate, howโ€™s he going to be to work for? He sabotaged his own self!

There should ALWAYS be a discussion on reaching out to past employers (unless they actually know each other) but ESPECIALLY your current one. That's all kinds of fucked up.

Apparently my current employer is using them for their services so I guess they know each otherโ€ฆso was he doing his friend a solid by telling him hey your boy is thinking of leaving with me you ok with that or would you want me to back off?

Still... Seems quite early and a little shady.

I had a boss reach out to the CEO of a company I used to work with, but they were buddies from MBA and I'd been out of that company for like 9 years.

It really seems stupid of the CEO to make that call, since it was obvious that the CEO would care and ask you.

Now, that should also indicate to the CEO that you are someone valuable and that not only do they love you and above all you do not owe them anything .. that "being committed to the company" is not at all, always seek to improve and the best for you, whether in your current company or another
