Here is what happened...
A recruiter reaches out to me because I haven't changed my LI job status "open to work" and offers me a interview with a base that is 44% more than what im making and uncapped comissions.
Naturally, i say why not take the interview...
He puts me in touch with the hiring company CEO and we talked for 2 hours...i told him i haven't updated my LI yet but i just joined a new company a month ago... he was like but would you join ours...i say this discussion will only be on the table if there is an offer ill entertain in but right now im happy where I am.
Next day my boss/co-founder of the company reaches out to me and was like Yo are you unhappy here? I say no, what's up? He says well i know you took an interview yesterday and wanted to know what is wrong for you to entertain this in the 1st place and if anything needs to change.
I say look, im happy with the environment here and i don't know what conversation happened but for my they reached out with an interesting offer so i welcomed to have that conversation doesn't mean that i want to leave or anything...ive been around my previous company for 5 years doesn't mean i never took an interview...for me i like to know what's out there and that's all. He was like i totally get it...im just worried because we are a startup and i want your assurance that you are committed with us...im like look im not in the business of hypotheticals i had a conversation and thats that...naturally we sell to HR teams and at some point ill make an impression to them thay they will try to recruit me or any of our colleagues i wouldn't be concerned since i was the one who reached out to join you not the other way around.
Question tho...should the ceo have reached out to my recent company for reference? I think that was low because he whther or not intentionally put me in a compromising position without sending an offer...
Also what would you do if I get an offer based on what that hiring CEO did vs the reaction of my current employer? Anything worrying or is that like their right to ask my current new employer for references where they could have asked my previous one or checked my linkedin for recommendations?
