Is this a dumb idea?

I had an idea to build a product that creates a business case from your product demo. Basically, you upload a video of your product demo, and it generates an ROI business case for it.

Not sure if I'm actually solving a problem here, or if this is a solution chasing a problem.

You have a bigger issue: companies don't know how to calculate ROI. Solve that problem first.

There is a lot of ‘fingers in the wind’ when it comes to ROI and people use it as an absolute which is unfortunate. Because if the customer doesn’t receive the payback expected then that is where trouble starts.

The fundementatl action of calculating ROI will not be fixed with your ML tool.

How companies calculate ROI is heavily dependent on their business model, costs, customer behaviors, etc. You have to teach companies how to calculate ROI correctly before you can get them to adopt a tool to help their reps do it...and a team that knows how to triage improper calculations.

Your solution is a version too far from where the market is.

I don’t think your idea is fully thought out yet, at least from the very limited info provided.

Also, I would assume for a product demo to exist there had to be a business case to justify it at some point prior.

But maybe I am misunderstanding the concept.

Sorry let me clarify- this would be an ROI business case created for a certain customer, in a pre sales capacity.

Just like solution engineerings (usually create) a custom demo for each customer, what if you could automatically generate an ROI business case for that customer, that’s reflective of the customer’s pain points/industry

ROI is a great way to help win a sale-- but it's important to have data that truly reflects your specific prospect/organization in order to be relevant. Sometimes you will need to request this data from the prospect if it's not publicly available. Without this data, you are really just providing a general case study. Two very different scenarios. Is it a dumb idea? Certainly not. Just make sure your data is accurate or you could paint yourself into a corner. Best of luck!

I think the most difficult piece here, is how are you going to calculate the ROI? Efficiency is the piece that becomes difficult and a lot of orgs don't love putting a number on "reducing manual work"

It's a good idea,but how you're gonna do it and explain it to the prospects!!
If you have solid illustration points to show the prospects,I encourage you to give it a shot and try it with em and see how it works and check if it gets you good results!
