Job hopping?

Hey everyone

I have a quick question:

I started an AE role a month ago. I have an interview coming up, if it is a great offer or a better one, should I jump?

Here at this company, no fucking benefits and no real money in comission and the base is quite fucking low.

I was a BDR and it is my first AE role but living in Amsterdam is quite fucking expensive and I thought being an AE would at least increase my base yet it decreased.

Looking forward to hearing from you

You took a promotion for a better title and less money?

You also don't have to put a 1 month stint on your resume - keep that in mind.

Mr. Chubby, if you can find a role with better benefits and pay, AND you like the organization, you would be crazy not to jump

seems like a clear-cut choice. Also, why did you take the pay cut?

I just did not want to be a BDR anymore. Like I have been in the role enough and wanted to move forward so I found this company, I was like okay, I will take the pay cut but at least I can be an AE and learn the role also they said that the av. new AE makes around 100k a year which turned out to be total bullshit

Dude you already gave your answer in your question. If I find the opportunity to be the right one, why not? I would make sure to ask all the questions (commish, benefits etc.) so there is no cribbing at a later stage.
All the best !

Interview. Get that higher base. Any way you can.
Amsterdam salaries are close to Dublin because the accommodation situation is hell. Also lots of demand for Dutch in other countries in Europe if you speak Dutch. If not, you might qualify for skilled worker tax benefits etc.

I don't speak Dutch and this company doesn't support the expat 30% ruling for tax benefits basically, here it looks like before a year, you don't make money, no benefits, and not even insurance coverage. 40k base

That's a low base. I'd keep interviewing.

We are in such shit economy, I do not want to take risks. Like people legit can't find a job and here I am being picky. This is my only concern

Eh, there are no guarantees. You might stay in your current job and get laid off two months from now. Then you'd wish you had jumped. Or, you take this "better" job, and get laid off there. Who knows. You can't paralyze yourself with the what ifs and what might happen where. If the other job sounds better and pays better than your current one, take it. If it sounds like a dumpster fire, but they're willing to pay you $5k more in base salary, then that's a whole different story.

The company I am interviewing with is Lucid Software, it says %40 quota attainment on Repvue.

Have you reached out to current and former AEs there? Get the inside scoop? What's the base difference? What's the quota attainment percentage at your current company?

If I was at $75k base/$150k OTE (which is a pipe dream I know) and I believed I had a near certain shot at hitting that OTE, but another company came along offering $90k base/$180k OTE but there's a pretty good chance I'll hit only 50% or less of quota, I'm probably not making the jump unless there's some compelling reason to do so.

Again, there are no guarantees, but if you got a good feel for your situation, and some data and anecdotal info about the other spot, you can kind of estimate what makes sense for you.

This is real talk. Although, word to the wise, I just had a recruiter ask me, "Is there any job you've had in the last 7 years that isn't on your resume?"
I guess they're getting hip

You’ve laid out all the reasons to move on your own.

- low pay
- no benefits
- no growth
- no skill advancement

Seems like the only thing keeping you there is a semblance of loyalty. My advice is be loyal to you and your family. There are no guarantees in another job, but you’ve got to just make the leap. 6 months from now the only regret you’ll have is not doing it sooner.

I would love to hear your thoughts but

The reason, or the biggest reason I want to jump: at this company we speak with tour operators like basically every day people who own businesses, 75 year old who doesn't know how to use excel and etc so this is not really a proper AE experience because I am not gonna learn how to manage steakholders, how to manage a complex sales cycle or talk to c-levels and etc.

I feel like this is just a waste of time and I am not gonna be getting any money, waste my money on top and will end up not even learning the most important aspects if I want to work at great companies in Saas.
Correct me if I am wrong

I feel like 2022-23 has been a fucked year for people's resumes. I think it's totally okay to look out for yourself and try to find something better if you aren't happy etc etc. But employers don't see it that way unfortunately

Well, update: they fired me anyway because I did not complete my probation period.
The reason was I was not responsive on slack so I am not a culture fit.
Can I bust this company out?

Dude, this is how the market works, for sure you can go, you would be crazy not to. Just never close doors, if this company doesn’t have benefits or real money in commission, once it was a good offer and that is why you accepted, you are just looking at a better one right now.
