Job interview during work hours

Anyone ever taken a video interview at their current companies office? I have a 30 minute zoom interview at 1030a Wednesday but I don't have wfh. I could either take pto or schedule a conference room at my office? any advice? I know I could look into moving it but I have to be in office so timing doesn't help to much.

Work remote from home or take the day off. Don't chance it.

Whats your risk tolerance? Seems like a high risk move with little reward. I'd take it from home and not have to worry about anything happening.

At the very least take early lunch and step out of the office.

Take the time off. I wouldn't chance someone walking in on your next move. Always best to move in silence. Plus if the conversation goes well and runs over you will need the added time buffer.

Gotta find the place in the office nobody else really goes around and have you airpods in!

You could probably get away with it once, but if you continually keep using a conference room for Zoom calls then the chances you get caught go up a lot.

Don't risk it - use PTO

I'd take it outside of your workplace whether that means stepping out for a couple of hours for an "appointment", using PTO, or WFH if you have the flexibility

You should be able to conduct the Zoom from your phone outside the office.

I used to have the same issue when I hated my old job. I did this for about 2 months. I used to schedule the majority of my interviews during lunch if I could and would do the Zooms in my car on my phone haha. I found that if you say "Hey, I apologize for where I am but I am doing this interview in my car out of respect for my company and doing it on my lunch break (i.e your free time and not taking time out of the work hours) so I don't lose time to get work done. They usually will appreciate that and see that this person is serious about the job they are interviewing for. And still working and getting things done.

For your case though currently- Find a dead part of the building/office to go hide out in. Otherwise, take the day off or the morning off. If you really don't feel comfortable or cant get the time off for whatever reason. Gotta try and move it to another time. If they are truly interested in you. They should be accommodating if you are upfront about your situation.

Best of luck!

Thank you for all the advice. I going to use pto and just take a half day. I have a ton of pto to use and I know I will be stressed doing it around my office. I could take an early lunch but doing it from my car seems a little unprofessional. Thanks !

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I've taken them from the car. Drive down the road and park in a different lot.

Do you go video on for the zoom from your car?

Yep, you can just do the blurred background.

How far is your commute? Say you have an appointment and take the interview from home.

30 minutes is the average so that’s a long lunch

For sure. Maybe do a half day if that's possible?

Going to go with a half day/pto for a few hours. I’ll buy myself a nice breakfast and enjoy the other times

Also, I've definitely taken interviews at the office, but it was ballsy/dumb of me. Didn't get caught, but it's a real "fuck it" attitude haha

I would use your lunch break to take it, then work through your normal lunch break hours. You could always tell them it is a doctors appointment.

What a rush! Adrenaline junkie? All jokes aside - take the day off or worst case scenario, do the video call from your phone in your car.

I take it in my car if I have to be in the office. Trust me I make an effort to drive in that day!

Take it during lunch or after hours.  Your potential employer will appreciate the grind.

I had my own office, so I did my interview in my office, door closed back when I was job searching. Coincidentally I had my own office because the other folks in my office left due to the company being hot garbage.
