Leave or go to AM?

I sell enterprise Saas for a big US company in the UK. 4y with them, risen up the ranks BDR/SMB/MM and crushed at every level. People are great, pay is decent (could be way better) and is overall cushy, but my territory has been badly affected by the economy = no way any of us could hit quota. Not enough business to go round, and living off of OB is unrealistic - long sales cycle, complex solution and often a purchase of this type is on their cards months in advance so sponteneity is rare. OB takes 12-18 months on avg from cold call to closed. It's been like this for months.

I feel very uninspired.

My boss noticed and has suggested a move to Account Management in attempt to not lose me. Similar pay with more stable comission but everything else is the same - and I can already foresee being frustrated by the same red tape all over and nothing new and exciting happening. Also very likely that people are not buying much there either.

I want to leave but I am scared that now is a bad time. I don’t want to be the last one in, first one out. Pls help - am I overthinking?

What is the retention looking like? 80%+? If so, could be an interesting move to get onto a value building track, enhanced by the knowledge of the customer problems as a net-new seller.

It is one of the best in the industry, 95-6%… they leave when they get acquired or bust… I think you make a fair point, I could definitely use my new biz experiences to help expand

There are job openings. Check out the posts by Gasty. Nothing wrong with continuing to look.

Before you make a decision I would suggest taking some time off, go on vacation. Sounds like you could be burned out a little. Some time away could give you a fresh perspective and recharge the batteries.

The fact that they are trying to keep you is positive. Staying where you are doesn’t sound as though it’s something you want to do. Maybe a change while you maintain your employment situation in this market might be a good step, at least for now. You can always keep looking externally in the meantime.

is it normal for the internal battle to be harder than the external tho? I feel surrounded by deal repellent teams lol

Tough to answer this without a definition of "overall cushy." If that means absolute zero chance of termination just an OTE that's out of reach. You might want to avoid possible pitfalls of new role. There are many who would take that right now.

chance is never zero but I feel reasonably confident that its low…. I think its exactly that, the risk might be too high to just leave over that

yeah, sometimes you've just got to play the waiting game. All of this will turn.

AM isn't a terrible move and if you hate it, there's always other options.

Overthinking....no.

If you want to leave:

1) start applying (be calculated with where you apply)
2) don't burn any bridges

I have some competitor interviews set up, decided to test the waters… would you say startups/scaleups are a big no no in this climate?

You just need to do your due diligence. Get a sense of how many layoffs they’ve had in the last year. What’s their funding situation look like, etc

Recommend you have a final decision only after you move to Account Management to see how it goes first,if didn't go as good as expected it's absolutely fine to look somewhere else and wish you much of luck!

Challenges are everywhere - new business and retention. We lost so many logos but it looks like our AM is doing well because those few can give you big numbers especially Enterprise.

It depends upon your interest, take your time think about it, don’t make hasty decisions but calculative

everything seems to be falling apart recently, 2 deals of mine died today 6 min apart - making “staffing changes” and freezing spending….
