I would start by speaking with a few CSMs and really getting their perspective on what will work to become one.

It would be interesting to hear stories from CSMs about where they started and how they got to where they are. I'm sure not all of them began as BDRs.

Why do you want to become a CSM? What about what you're doing now relates to that role? You have people management skills now, as well as working with multiple vendors. Equate that to a CSM role and explain how you can build upon that framework and experience to be a really good CSM.

There are many courses but I am not sure if they can help you land a job. I would start networking to see what other CSMs are doing and relate to my goals if this is something I want to do. That’s the first step.

I went from hospitality management to the tech world as a CSM, CSM Manager, VP of CSM, Sales, Sales Director, VP of Sales, to Senior Enterprise Account Executive. If I could do it, you can do this. PM if you want to chat. 👍🏼

Embellish what you are doing or directly relate it to was a CSM would do in their day to day.

@btiz: Have you thought about penciling down a particular industry as well, like SaaS or eCommerce?

A good tip is to find CS job reqs for company's and look at the section around who they are looking for. Be able to tie a story that showcases that trait.

I went from the restaurant industry into sales by accident, but I've realized it's such a natural fit to go from the hospitality industry to any GTM function. It's people skills and listening. Happy to chat if you send me a DM!

Talk to some CSMs and understand what it is that you lack in terms of skillset. Get that skillset through courses for now - and then start taking the objection of "oh you don't have experience" by telling "Hey, this is what I did to get the knowledge for now. I'll learn more once I land the right job".

I've heard something called CS in Focus, not sure if it'll help but could be worth checking out.
