Multi-Employer Sales - looking for advice

Hey all,

I've got a theoretical question for y'all. Ive been approached to work for another employer in an adjacent industry to my current sales gig. I like where Im at and don't want to leave.

The other product is also SaaS and aligns with my current product. the synergies are amazing. that said, i dont think I can ethically talk anout both products on the same call...thoughts?

I currently exceed my number in about 35 hours per week. this other gig might be demanding at first but I already know all the right buyers...

Would love to hear the community's thoughts on this. Does anyone currently run this kind of situation?  What are the strengths and weaknesses?

No you can't work two full-time jobs.

Well, you can, but you'll soon find yourself with 0 jobs.

Read your employment contract.

Your FT gig would likely fire you if they found out.

I wouldn't do anything to jeopardize my current job. If you want to leave then leave. 🤷‍♀️

Unless your current employer is ok with this, decline the offer.  That is the right thing to do regardless of strengths and weaknesses.

It all depends on what you may have signed with your current employer and what level of Risk you can tolerate.

Many people have a "side hustle".  Nothing wrong with that by itself.  One of my best friends sells about $50k/yr of finished wood products on etsy and works FT for the County in which we live.  His FT employer knows and doesn't care.  Nor would any corporate employer.

Ethically though you may run into an issue - talking about 2 separate products on the same call can quickly take you from the light gray area of a side hustle to infringing on your commitment to your current employer.

There are plenty of examples out there of working 2 jobs concurrently.  Rarely are they sales jobs - many are software developer type jobs.  Here's a great article I read last year on it:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/these-people-who-work-from-home-have-a-secret-they-have-two-jobs-11628866529

I have never seen an employment offer/contract say "you can only work for us".  But I have seen many state that anything you do during regular business hours (8-5, M-F) belongs to the company.  So they could come after you for lost time, etc.  on top of simply firing you.  And company 1 absolutely has a case that their expectation is you are working 8-5 for them, and if you're not its equal to theft.

So legally its a gray area.  Nothing says you can have multiple income streams.  However if you're using the normal workday to work two similar sales jobs, you could indeed end up with 0 jobs.

This is asking to get fucked lmao. You will find it hard to keep things straight and then what happens when prospects start calling both companies asking for your update/support on xyz deal and your companies find out you sold them both??
Or if your calls are recorded via Gong for example this will just have evidence and you'll get caught.

Good job on exceeding your number though!
