Looking for an SDR with 2+ years experience?

Hey all,

I just had a recruiter reach out about an opportunity on their sales team. Upon further exploration, they are looking to hire an SDR with "2+ years of experience in the role."

I don't know how anyone would last two years as an SDR without taking the short way off the roof, much less go out and seek another SDR opportunity afterwards.

Is this for real?

There are a few companies out there that don't consider SDR an entry-level position and look more for "career SDRs", pay them really well too.

Personally, I get it, an amazing SDR can be a great asset to have. However, I'd rather slice my ears off than be an SDR any longer than I had to.

I would say the base that they offer will tell you if they are off their rockers or actually really invested in their SDR team.

I guess that makes sense. Just feels like a lot of pressure for "comparatively" not a lot of pay. But then again, I don't have the numbers - maybe they would surprise me.

That's why I don't even bother applying for roles that don't list the base in the JD.

If they were looking for SDRs with 2 years of experience and the base was 80k it would make a lot of sense.

I can see that - there would still need to be a damn good PMF for me to entertain, but I guess The role is right for someone

The fact of the matter is that there aren't a lot of SDRs out there with 2 years of experience looking for another SDR role. Those that are either suck really bad at being an SDR and a promotion eludes them, or they have intentionally chosen the path of career SDR. The compensation for the role will tell you which of the two they end up with.

Give 'em a Senior SDR title. Or an Associate Manager SDR title. Would work for a couple of more years.
Salesforce does it.

The last one of these I saw was for a "Sr" SDR, which makes sense.  As long as they're not listing it and paying it as entry-level, they're free to look for those career SDRs, I suppose.   Not a job for me, but to each his or her own.

Anyone looking to hire SDRs and is looking for SDRs with 2 years experience should go pound sand. Unless they are the 1% exception where they sell a really complex product that someone coming in would have no knowledge on (would be hard to come in as an AE anyway), then they should fuck off.

Agreed, though the 'career SDR' stuff above isn't something I've thouht of/seen.

Some people love being an SDR and have no aspirations to move beyond it. Especially with companies beginning to not look at it as an entry level position. And not paying them as an entry level person either.

I know at my company for example they won't hire an SDR without experience. You either have to have tech experience or sales experience. Otherwise they won't even have a conversation with you.

Makes sense - I have yet to see a role that has a salary over the standard (70 - 90 k) My guess is they don't advertise those numbers?

yeah I mean SDR pay is pretty standard across the board. Companies will have to do something about that though if they want guys with experience and who kill at it to stay in the role instead of moving up into AE jobs though.

Having 0 or even 1 year of cold calling experience won’t be enough if you’re among the first SDRs. The base pay for a 2 year experienced SDR should be 100k IMO

I will say, I did NOT expect an almost dead even split among those three options. My guess would be they are all true depending on industry and experience.
