Looking for the coaching I don’t get at work

New seller, 90% attainment, $6M in SaaS B2B and B2G sales 6 months in profession. 6 Months in - placed on PIP.

What to do next? fight? fold and leave? I have two small children so I need to succeed but this is a major confidence hit.

Why did they put you on a pip if you're at 90% 6 months in?

Feels like you’re either not sharing all context of the PIP or they are doing this to avoid severance and a layoff is looming.

The reasons are soft things like meeting scheduling and sending agendas. They’re saying I’m not a fit for sales.

You're not a fit but have closed $6m in 6 months...?

So your revenue attainment is all well and good, but you’re a bad culture fit. Feels…litigious to me.

90% is strong for first 6 months, what was their reasoning? If there is not a good one, start looking and dedicate your time to prospecting new roles. If it is a good reason, still start looking, but might be an opportunity to work through it

Yup. They are trying to put you on a PIP and try to show that you aren't doing your job. Trying not to pay you.
Tell them when the PIP comes they'll be dying in litigation.
Pay you what you're owed or your coming for their children.

Making sure I understand: this is your first sales role, and you’re at 90%?

For the overall landscape: what kind of company (start up, established, etc) and solution (tech, med device)? How many reps, and how are they doing? Are PIPs common? What are the terms of your PIP? Is it attainable?

And no, generally, the advice is not to just leave. When you quit, you lose time (the 30 days you can be looking for another role) and unemployment (if in US).

I realize this is enormously stressful. Let’s see how we can help you.

I really appreciate that. I’m used to the cynicism from blind. How refreshing it is to actually get help.

It’s a FAANG company doing indirect selling SaaS solutions through channel sales in federal (long sales cycles). The pip terms are extremely vague and subjective. They’re attainable but it would be subject to their acceptance.

I saw the details elsewhere. I'd definitely start looking elsewhere but let them be the ones to let you go - don't do their work for them.
Even if you don't survive this PIP (and I do not mean this literally), learning to make those soft skills they claim you're lacking, like agendas and confirming next steps (which is a closing tactic) reflexive and something you do every time as a matter of course, is great sales practice that will carry over to any other sales job. Being rigorous and confirming agendas up front, including what you plan to accomplish in the meeting, coupled with getting the next step (what follows) done afterward, is key. Maybe you are already doing this, and they're subjectively trying to say you aren't (?).

$6M in 6 months = 90%?- wtf are you selling with a quota more than $12M? Math can’t be right.

Ok, missing piece revealed in other replies. Are the terms of the PIP achievable otherwise?

90% sounds pretty good. Just in this case stay through the PIP?

Find someone in your vertical and ask if they can help you out. Maybe they can meet with you for 30min once a week for a few weeks. Something like that from an unbiased and experienced rep could make a massive difference.

How come having that great achievement and being put on PIP,absolutely makes no sense!

I spoke to someone just recently about GTMUnited. It's ran by Scott Leese. I don't know if that would be something that could help you, but from what I learned, everyone in the community actively helps those that seek it out.

Seemed like it could be a potential option for outside coaching opportunities and learning, v trying to do it all yourself.

Gonna go to the Salesforce office in Toronto after applying for SDR. Am I doing something that can work against me or is useless?
