Manager and Coach should be different

if you get manager whom you consider as coach, great!

but if you aren't in approval of manager's ability to give you any sales advice and you are on a team quota with MBOs , how do you suck it up?

golden handcuff, can't leave , help me ways to suck it up.

give me your coping mechanisms ?

Very true, I go to the prez club rep for advice more than the manager

Makes sense - that rep is still on the front lines and is successful. Glad that rep is helping you out!

Get an external coach! He should coach your career not your performance !

How do you usually approach this ? Do you allocate professional coach budget personally?

Yes, it’s part of any career development. He can guide you when to switch jobs how to get promoted, things you don’t see when you’re in the tunnel vision of one single company.

A manager is someone who manages your day - day activities / your performance. They are assigned to you by chance (mostly).

But the coach is someone you need to look for, hunt and see the right fit. They are not by chance, they are by choice.

Coping mechanisms: Go out of the way to find your coach and make sure you have your bases covered.
