NDAs are hampering my groove - Any better way to play this?

Subject: CFOs don't usually get these-

Hi {{first_name}},

Yes, an xxx platform used by two of the globe's top lenders whose logos are in your wallet is emailing you directly.

Here's why: {{company}}'s xxxx technology can likely be augmented (not replaced) with a solution that cuts $200k in annual MLOps expense. We did it for them. We'll do it for you.

Worth a look? If so, would it be Dave or Jay?

I’ll never forget the CEO of the company I used to work for, whilst we as a company were engaged in a tiff with the CEO of another very large tech company, referring to that company not by name but as “a fruit company in Cupertino”. Would something like that (well, maybe not so snarky) work? We also used “very large athletic shoe manufacturer in the PNW” when we couldn’t name drop. Letter of the law right there.

This is interesting. C Suite says “a behemoth telco in the UK.” They actually said “ a large domestic air carrier based in Atlanta” I mean… I might take some liberty with known ad slogans.

A large charge card company- most won’t leave home without it. Another one in the same category that’s priceless. For everything else there’s them.

Or not.

I’d definitely have more fun with it than “two of the largest FSIs in the world…” which is legit but maybe not as attention-getting as a clever turn of phrase.

Yeah- but that nails it and it’s likely sufficient. I’m probably way over thinking it. I dont really think the generics are prohibiting replies. Pretty safe to assume this never happened. “I would have replied, but I’m not sure he meant Mastercard.” And we persist. 😁

Having the customers to reference, even obliquely, is far better than not having them.

I’m laughing at the thought of someone looking at an email and say, “you know, if only he’d have told me AMEX was using their stuff, I’d have responded, but since he didn’t, I’ll continue to wonder if there’s a way to solve this problem I have.”

This could work! Opens the door to include rampax ranpons too.

Do you mean you can’t mention a clients name due to an nda?

Yeah, can't say AMEX or Mastercard.... it's like a prospecting noose. I can get away with saying it verbally. Just can't write it.

I have the same issue with a couple my clients. They won’t let us put out PRs and we have to get their permission to mention them in conferences.

Are you able to put their logo on a slide which mentions all your clients, without saying exactly what you do for them?

Yeah, that I can do. It just doesn't help the door knocking. I think it's just the startup curse. Tough to get around this:

"Hi this is nobody from a company that's never done anything for anyone you've ever heard of. Gimme some time so I can waste it?"

Yah, it’s rough. It’s nice to be in a big, well known company. Name recognition is awesome.

Standard NDA says not to say anything about who we're engaged with. I can sing about the tech. I just can't turn heads with big logos. I can get away with mentions but the minute I write it I'm going to jail.

I like the phrasing, people will know exactly what you're talking about. Clever way to skirt logo rights and establish credibility.

Not crazy about the "can you believe we're emailing you" opener. I'm sure CFOs get plenty of cold emails. I think a stronger hook is less likely to trigger the immediate delete reflex.

I'd suggest starting with an observation or problem statement.
