Negotiating Salary

Quick question? I'n my role as a Sr. BDR interviewing for AE roles. Is there any room to negotiate salary? Or I shouldn't even bother given my lack of experience in SaaS AE role?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

yes always ask. but have a reason. even if you have to lie, i would say
"this is a nice offer and I am really excited about the idea of joining the team. I have another offer that is $x amount more. if you could match that offer I would sign right away".

something like that.

Always ask for more but lying is never a good strategy with anything in life including salary negotiation. If you have to lie there you'll lie in other aspects of your life both professionally and personally and it'll catch up with you sooner rather than later and it's awkward af in either application and could damage future salary negotiation.

Ask for more and give them a reason for it, don't be entitled.

you can always ask for more, but considering you haven't been an AE before, I'd be wary of how much I ask for.

Totally agree, Iโ€™m currently in the 3rd of interviews. The base is $70K with an OTE of 140K so itโ€™s a 50/50 spilt. I live in the NYC market and thatโ€™s a little below market value so Iโ€™m trying figure out how much is too much given that I donโ€™t have much leverage.

Always negotiate for something above and beyond the offer. Whether it is a better split from base to variable, higher OTE in general, or perks (gym, more PTO, sign on bonus, paid learning, better healthcare etc).

Always negotiate! Believe it or not, when asking for more, you actually give the hiring manager more of a reason to want to hire you because they see that you aren't afraid to ask about money which translates to "asking for the sale".

It's the same as you asking for the appointment as a BDR now.
