Outreach CEOs cringe post on return to office

he starts off his opinion piece by stating that he "has a confession". since when is it considered a confession, implying courage, to take the de facto stance of the ruling class on a platform owned and operated by the ruling class where no one can dissent in the comments for fear of reputational harm?

He then goes onto say that the problem with wfh is the lack of energy. He gives an anecdote on high fivinf people in his office and how much he misses it. The problem with that is he pays those people to be excited and energetic around him. he's basically saying that he misses being surrounded by people whose lives he has in the palm of his hand. and to him, it's worth bringing back all his employees to be popular--despite costing them 10s of thousands in childcare and 5+ hours a week in commuting costs during the largest inflationary crisis since 1980.ย

anyways, outreach peeps, your ceo is out of touchย

I don't miss a 90 minute commute to work each way. Full stop.

I'm not sorry for leaders who miss the buzz of the sweatshop floor. We've adjusted. They should.

I say this often. It baffles me folks in leadership roles show their true ignorance by not learning anything the last 3 years. I will not follow anyone in that camp.

The longer you work, the more you realize that the VAST majority of senior leadership is in their position simply because they outlasted the others. Not because they are great contributors or have an immense impact on the org...

However, they have told themselves their entire career that they are the cream that rises to the top. So they buy into the bullshit and believe that everyone see's them the way that they see themselves.

So yes, WFH doesn't offer the opportunity for them to mentally masturbate their ego on a daily basis and they MISS IT SOOO MUCH.

I work from home 99% of the time but I have no issue with leaders who want people back in the office, given the caveat that this is communicated during the interview process.

There are definitely benefits of working in the office together, there are many benefits of working from home. I personally prefer the latter but its baffling to me how people treat it like one or the other is 100% the answer.

Yeah I like a hybrid role, come in for a couple days a week, maybe team based. Then work from home the rest. Sales obviously shouldnโ€™t be required to work in office unless for specific reasons or meetings. But other roles could benefit from a little more office time. Like you said, just depends.

Ha, Iโ€™ll take it! Built a B2B SaaS (HR tech) company to exit. Now run a sales consulting company working with early/mid stage SaaS founders and revenue leaders.

So you get to see exactly how delusional these founders are and incompetent at sales? Or do the more competent ones with self awareness self select for consulting services?

Each engagement is a little different but itโ€™s always interesting. Some are delusional, most are just terrified of messing it up. If theyโ€™re bringing in help thatโ€™s usually a good thing.

It's all tradeoffs. You definitely miss something with WFH, but you also gain a lot too. Both companies and the employees. It's also interesting that some of these leaders want people back in the office in some of the most expensive areas of the country to live in.

There's literally nothing to miss.

Go to work. Leave. You aren't being paid for anything else.

1. I definitely think you lose out on potential networking opportunities, networking opps that can lead to promotions. Are these important? Maybe for some people, maybe not for others. Is it worth having to go to an office? Again, depends.

2. Remote coaching is a lot harder. Good managers of course are not going to let WFH interfere with helping their team out. But we all know not every manager is a good one. Plus it's great getting peer coaching when you're literally working in the office/desk next door.

Again, I'm not saying WFH isn't worth it. I'm saying that there are obvious tradeoffs.

Most of those people originally signed up for a commute and all that entails, so I don't feel sorry for them.

However, if its just so the CEO doesn't feel lonely, that's a different issue.

My current CEO, thanks to the pandemic, has come to realize that good people live everywhere, not just where he lives. I applied to my current company originally years ago and was turned away because I didn't live near the HQ. I got hired right away right after the pandemic because of his epiphany of good people working from home can work out.

Ok, honest answer- in the early phases of long cycle paddling. Big load of pipe offloaded to the implementation/dev/scopers. If I drop another POC over there, there going to disown me. So... last few weeks? Just doing some solid relationship building... with my cat.

Even still, how long does a post take? I'm not writing a thesis over here. Lawd knows I've proven that. :)

Had to go diplomatic instead of just saying hey I just missed my money and benefits that's why I'm coming back, maybe he/she is not the best one to know as you said, however everyone has his own justifications for his decisions in a way that make em sound meaningful and reasonable!

Had a webinar with a company where at the top of the call the leading rep boasted about how his entire company is in office, how no one is remote, and they are better because of it.

Keep in mind all of us on the call are taking the call from home. Because 90% of our org is remote.

So tone deaf and definitely killed any energy he could of received.

@quotascammedeverytimeCan you provide a link to the post and/or articles where this guy is saying these things?

I always liked the product. But I guess supporting it can't be done anymore.

So like, Gong obviously forced all their employees to post on linkedin today with an obvious template?
