To leave a voicemail or not to leave a voicemail... That is the question...

My thoughts: Leaving a voicemail now-a-days is less of an opportunity to close, but more of an opportunity to push towards the right avenue where you will actually get a response. With technology today, and most folks having iphones (im not sure if android does this), but voicemails are transcribed within your mailbox.

Use your voicemail as another avenue, not only by voice (them understanding you are a human), but somewhat as a way to beat around the "no cold texting prospects" and get that message directly into their hands.

Would love to hear thoughts and feel free to share your voicemail scripts/talk tracks.

My VMs are brief where I set the expectation to look for an email from me with a specific subject line.ย

I couldn't agree more. Its important, for me at least to think about what the point of the VM is. It is not to sell, it is not to close, it is to be used as a chance to bridge the gap between ringing and picking up.ย

2 of my biggest accounts I've closed were from leaving a simple VM and they called back.ย  While you might not see the return right away Vms will still generate callbacks which generate meetings that generate that new car you've been looking at.ย

Hey Prospect, looks like I missed you. Just following up on X. Just wanted to know where you stood/think on "open end question" about "anchor/common interest". I'm going to send you an email, outlining what we can do to make that happen, let me know your thoughts,ย

I have started to utilize a different tool recently - Hinterview.ย
Anyone heard of it?ย
Instead of leaving a voicemail... i create a short video... and send that in an email - i say almost the same things... but they get to see me!ย

I like this. I used to use a product similar. The human touch aspect is huge. My question for you is how much time does it take to create that video opposed to leaving a voicemail. Are you only leaving those videos for Director/C-Level > folks?

when it's just a voicemail, i will literally do it for anyone, any level. Doesn't really take any time, i never reshoot a video, i keep it as natural as possible.ย
I do utilize this same tool when i create "email blasts" - i do some sort of value add, or industry overview... something like that. For the holidays, i had my kids and wife wish everyone a merry xmas. People seem to like that...ย
Like you said, it's the human touch!ย

Personally, I've always been a fan of the second dial VM.ย  If they didn't answer the first time they either screen their calls or I've just missed them. If I miss them a second, they'll either call back or block my number.ย  If they don't answer on a third call I traditionally attempt another approach or just drop the lead (depending on industry, obviously).ย

I personally don't like the suspense that goes with the voicemail. There's no way to find out if that particular person has heard it or not. But I know a few people who have found some success with it.

If you're doubtful, why not just do a little A/B testing.

Leave a voicemail telling them you will be sending an email or LinkedIn message. This has been HugE for me. ๐Ÿš€
