Pay Responsibilities

Now, I know the company I work for is not responsible for my financial woes unless they are late on paying.

Well this is the second time our pay fell on the weekend, but we do not get paid till after the weekend.

Currently only 3 employees in North America, the CEO and two sales reps.

Because of me being me, I have around 6 payments that came out last Friday. Well they all got returned because of non sufficient funds in my account.

My question is this, should I ask my employer to reimburse them because of not being able to be paid till after the weekend?

I know people will say get a line of credit or a overdraft, but that is not possible right now. I just want to see if it's reasonable to ask to be compensated.

My money woes should not be my employers responsibility, but in this case, I'm not sure.

Reimbursed?

No, its not their fault. Its just the way it lands.

(1) I try to limit any and all auto-payments from my account for this exact reason

(2) Any auto-pays come out when I know for 100% certainty I will have money. For example - if I got paid on the 1st and 15th, I would not have a payment come out on either of those days. I would choose a day 2-3 day after so as to guarantee I have the funds.

Take this as a learning experience. Go to all your auto-pays and re-do the days they take their money out of your account. OR just cancel them and write checks like your parents did.

All of this.
I don't have many auto-pays, but it's always 3 days out from any pay day.

Although any company I've worked for would move payday forward, not back, when it falls on a weekend.

If they didn't pay you due to a payroll or bank error, you might have recourse. But it sounds like this is how it's just setup.

See below - he explains that once they didn't submit payroll for a week. It's a bit of both.

Saw that after. Sounds like the first time was their fault but not the second.
Either way, he's gotta be pragmatic and adjust that auto pay schedule

Exactly. Though how to predict a full week - thatโ€™s hard. I guess long term plan is to ensure you have sufficient funds at all times to ensure youโ€™re covered in these contingencies, but building up to that can take time.

A week is obscene. That's where things like overdraft protection can really help. I never use it, but it's worth ~$5/month to avoid any issues with things that REALLY matter, like my mortgage, if God forbid, something bad happens.

How am I so stupid. lol Never thought about having them 2-3 days after I get paid. I know what I'm doing this afternoon.

Happens to those type of people who focus on the big prize. I get the goof, but you really can't pin it on your employer. Just schedule them for a few days after.

I'm not sure about reimbursement - but Pachacuti is right. You can usually work your payment plans so they fall on a day you choose.
Also - I've only worked for companies that paid out on or before the date. Paydates 1st and 15th but there's a holiday or weekend? We're paid the business day BEFORE that date. Not sure why your company does it in the inconvenient way they are doing it.

I was told it was because the company that distributes the funds, will not do international over the weekend. I really don't know though.

They *should* do it before the weekend if the 1st or 15th fall on the weekend. Last business day before.

You're gonna have to stop the auto payments until you get enough saved up to begin again.

I know OP said this isn't possible now, but OP you gotta do this as soon as you can. It's solid financial advice to pay bills on your credit card then pay the credit card off in full every month. This way you pay your bills and get credit card rewards on top of those. It's using your money to make you money. It's how the rich get richer. If you're not, you're missing an opportunity.

I dont pay for SHIT with my money. I use the Credit Card Companies money to buy, and then I pay that back and get rewards.

Throw away your debit card. Get a credit card.

agreed, I dont either but im thinking the OP clearly has either financial difficulty or struggles with finance management and thats my concern when talking credit cards. For me, and you by the sounds, they are a huge asset.

Yes and no. Dad died and I had to foot the funeral costs, and since then, have taken on more payments unfortunately.

That sucks. Happy birthday to your dad out there somewhere. It takes a while to recover from trauma so give yourself some time and I'm sure you'll get bills and everything sorted

Late submitting payroll and it's the second time it's happened.
First time was well over a week late.

Is it late due to the payment occuring in the weekend or because they were too late with submitting payroll?

A week late submitting payroll is another issue entirely. Failure to pay on time is a huge issue, and yes, is completely their fault.

Unless they said in writing they would pay you before or on the day during a weekend, unlikely you could get reimbursed

Youll need to stop automatic payments until youre safe enough to start again.

Shooters shoot. The worst they can say is no. That being said, the company is not responsible for your auto-pay mishaps. They will probably say no unless they have a lot of money and like you a lot.

Are you banking with the same bank as the company?
This can delay payments by a couple of days in some countries.
