Proper Sales Teachings for your Reps

1 thing a lot of people forget about when it comes to being a manager is that the whole company should know you can go out there and put up the numbers you are asking your reps to achieve. The only way to properly build a team/ business is if you can make what you do teachable. You have to duplicate yourself 3 times over and make sure that it can be taught to another 3 as well so that now there are 7 of "you" out there performing.

If you cant teach what you're capable of doing then you should stay as a rep and let someone else build!

Ey Junior a lot of newbies tend to come in here blastin' on these long ass, LinkedIn style gabagool rants. I actually like this post and agree. If it can't be replicated it won't be sustainable.

Not always the case. Sometimes the best players don't make the best coaches. But yes, if you were a top performer and master the art of teaching/coaching/mentoring you'll make an outstanding leader.

Iโ€™m a big proponent of not being the โ€œfat soccer coachโ€. I hate the thought of telling someone what to do if I donโ€™t know how to do it myself. That being said, there are lots of sales managers who manage well without getting too involved in the selling side

I agree with you. Which is why I wanted to gear the conversation more towards being a great teacher. As a players coach I gain more respect when my team knows I've played the game before and understand what they are going through. Now when you were the best and can teach others to be the same that's a value that is hard to find.
That's all I'm saying

It is all about the culture and the fundamentals. Very similar to high-level sports. The best franchises have a culture and fundamentals that are handed down. It is important to all who wear that jersey.

As someone who has competed at all high levels in sports I can say that I agree with that.
But there are people that play at the highest of levels and go to a place where the culture isnโ€™t the same. They have the ability to bring the fundamentals and stability learned from their experiences.
Thatโ€™s why trades are made so people who win can bring the winning mentality with them and change can come.
Everyone wants to winโ€ผ๏ธ

Very well said. The game is always won in the locker room. Trades are a great way to change a locker room by bringing a winning mentality. Winners are always a catalyst for change.

The skills necessary to be a top performer are not the same needed to be a top "manager / coach / leader"

Understood. Now if you are running a sales team are you teaching them to be mediocre or top performers? Cause if you're teaching to be top performers, how do you know how to do that if you've never been one? How do you earn the respect of your team if they don't know you can do what is being asked of them? It's all relative in a way but I guess it depends on your goals as a leader as well. Me personally in sales it's all about numbers and if you aren't putting those up sales isn't for you.
These are all things Sales managers, Leaders & coaches experience.

Actually, sales at the end of the day is about helping clients enhance their profit. But you are making my point... top performer in sales is focused on business of one: themselves. Manager|Coach|Mentor is focused on serving others. The best of the best have a coach - and rarely did that coach achieve the levels of those they are coaching. In fact, the reason they do what they do is to help others succeed.

I agree, some people know how to sell wolf tickets. I am honestly just passionate about it. My joys come from looking at a rep and helping them use their natural talents to enhance their pitches and use of the system.
I think in sales a lot of people just have to like you. It makes the sale easier. But again itโ€™s all relative you just have to find it.
