Public company or startup?

Working as an Account Manager, renewal and grow my portfolio. Wanna move to the other side of the fence and bring in new logos.

Atm, in the process with two companies :

1/ Public company, processes well set up, big name -> Entreprise SDR position, 80k USD OTE. Promotion to AE possible within the second year.

2/ Startup (Serie B), everything to build with the Head of Sales -> AE (without SDR), 120k USD OTE

Both have great cultures, great benefits. My main goals is to grow and enjoy the ride, thus my struggle here, since both can offer me that.

Any thoughts?

Peep the post I wrote earlier for more thoughts but if you are going from an AM role with no outbound closing experience there is NO WAY I would move to the startup if I were you.

Agreed. You’re not in the position to be responsible for building out processes having never closed a deal. Go with the established company and learn the ropes. It’s not a sexy journey but you’ll be better off for it.

Always for an AE over SDR rather than struggling to jump from SDR to an AE in the future.

Not sure I quite agree with this as I tend to think of SDRs and AEs as different skill sets- one's a hunter and one's a closer.

I'd ask you, @Roi- are you hungry to hunt or strategizing to close? AM roles in my experience are more of a closing role so transitioning to an SDR position may be extremely frustrating if you aren't ready for that chase.

Strategizing to close is indeed a big part of my AM role, and I love it.
The hunt is really a part that I do not know, but I can see a great learning in going into that direction.
The AE job will have some hunt as well, since there are no SDRs.

Go for the AE role. You can learn how to be an SDR with better pay while also getting closing experience imo.

Typically the Startup will offer more opportunity for career advancement in a shorter amount of time than a public company will. Promotion possible always irks me because I have been burned in the past by that.

At the end of the day once you get to series B and establish product market fit you can take off quickly from there.

Best wishes in the DM process
