Pulled the trigger too early?

I started an MM/Ent AE position mid August, spent two months in training in a new industry before receiving my first contacts to cold call. unfortunately I had a pre planned vacation for 1 week, which was the same week I started out of training. the following 2 months of Nov and Dec were holidays and office closures for us and the prospects. I finally closed my first deal, signed contract on Jan 11th 23 and then was let go on the same afternoon. I had another contract out and a verbal yes, just waiting for the prospect to arrive back from holiday vacation. I was informed that my performance lacked but had more activity then any other sales rep over the holiday season. I was ramping up to crush this role and show up the team that has been there for 15+ years. Was I let go too early without a proper chance or did the sales manager make a sound decision? or does it seem that I was let go suspiciously right after drumming up business? trying to move on but not sure how to present this to a new employer...

Having a vacation right when you start a new job is never a good thing, no matter what the reason. Better off putting out your start date till after the vacation.

That said, just a couple months says you are “first in, first out”. You’re the easy lay off. Nothing really invested in you emotionally.

So unless there were personality conflicts you didn’t mention or some other external issues you omitted, this is just a case of them tightening the purse at your expense.

Thanks for the reply, how would you recommend I present this to a new employer?

Universal layoffs. Not a reflection of you, just the economy.

This the exact mindset I have seen multiple times. Never take time the first month, and always look to close early and often.

Future prospective employers do not need to know you took a planned vacation 2 months after you started, and they don’t need to know any of the details. You can say you were doing what was expected, but unfortunately were let go due to economic reasons. Be excited about the new opportunity, and try not to schedule any vacations for a while so you don’t put yourself in another problem with timing.

Good luck!

@FinanceEngineer Thank you for the comment, Can you elaborate on “mindset” please? If it helps me to be critical of my self and improve, I would like to do so.

damn that sucks. were there any other ppl let go? lay off or something?

Ive never had a trip planned right as im starting a new job but it sounds like that hurt you.

it does sound super unfair for them to let you go so soon. especially since you had deals closing.

If I was you i would frame it to employers that you "suspected they were getting ready to lay ppl off and just said it was because of poor performance for cover"

That suck man. But this sounds like a number decision. Being at a job only 90 days or less is not worth even mentioning on a resume. If anyone asks about the gap, just say you were one of the new guys when layoffs hit.
