Not necessarily, if you learn to absorb remotely, which is difficult for sure. F2F is much better early from an osmosis learning perspective. But no matter the environment, it’s really up to you.

As an intern, do you have a mentor you can discuss these questions with?

At the moment, most companies are entirely remote as more and more close their offices with this current wave. If you can thrive in the remote world, you open yourself up to so many opportunities down the road that you may not consider if you were an "office or bust" person.

No, the world is different now.

However a lot is lost being away from the team.

I don't think so, especially because it seems like everyone is either remote or switching to some hybrid model. In my opinion, it just might be a tougher transition for a first job. I learned so much just from being around my colleagues and listening in to sales calls whenever I could, and sometimes that's harder to do when you're all remote. If they offer an in person onboarding though, that would definitely help!

I love working remote now and don’t see an issue with career trajectory if you start remote. It’s the way the world’s moving. However — I’ll say first job out of college is a really tough transition regardless if it’s sales or some other role. It’s just hard to go from paying for your college to create a good experience for you to a company paying you and having to do a shit ton of boring stuff you won’t feel like doing. You are no longer the customer when you enter the working world. For me personally — I enjoyed having peers my age around to ease the transition, bitch in person with, grab drinks, and do the occasional beer league sports team with.

It's going to be an adjustment, but if you want to get started and remote is all that's available, you'll most likely have to do that.

If you're in university now, odds are pretty high that you've had remote classes for at least part of the last couple of years.   It can be a challenge, but if you were able to manage remote school, you should be able to manage remote work.

Honestly, with regard to career trajectory, who knows.  Probably not.   Many people in sales didn't start in sales right after school, and have landed here by one means or another.   It's more likely to be a case of managing your own expectations for early job/career in an unusual set of circumstances.

Remote and in person are both predicated on your ability to attain sales success. If you don't hit the number, your career trajectory stops immediately upon termination. Remote is shorter drive home after the fact.....
