Remote Work Makes More Money for the Company

I used to commute an hour and a half per day to office (round trip).

My average sales price is $50k

My Average Negotiation call is 30 minutes

I can do 3 more calls per day, 15 per work week, possibly making north of $750k more for the company not commuting. (obviously some weeks are not this but you get my point).

Remote work is not a hindrance its a money maker. Period.

Are companies just blind to this or dont want to feel like they are pissing away rent?

It’s about trust and money. Someone somewhere has a legit example of someone not doing their job while working from home so they all die on that hill now. Also having an office, brick and mortar , the infrastructure to support it, etc does cost money, and they want to get their money’s worth.

All of the above, I'd say.
Definitely trust issues and outdated thinking.

Do you take sales calls and negotiation calls before normal business hours or after? If no, your argument is invalid.

Companies are investing heavy into remote monitoring software too so I think distrust tbh

I was interviewing at place that wanted you in 5 days a week. The hiring manager even said, studies say people only work 20 hours a week remotely so we have you come in 5 days a week

Locked into leases matters too. Lots of companies took out longer term leases and are stuck with big offices. Gotta make the space worth it.

YOU may be more productive, but many aren't. There is also the inherent lack of trust - what you can't see and touch you can't control.

Depends on the company.

I consult for one where it's both (sunk cost fallacy and wanting control).

They don't want to feel like all the money they spend on the office is wasted and they also want to monopolize the time of everyone in the office (and they can't do that remotely because boundaries).
Needless to say, I rarely go into that office... but I'm "always welcome!"

Then you have a case to be made! Ask your leadership when they don’t want revenue.

Control from the rich. They don't care if you are less productive or not, its all about control.

Always comes down to money when all it’s said and done. But trust and old school execs being stuck in their ways def plays a big factor too

the great majority don't trust their employees, hence their poor results. The other greater part of that pie is people who want to flaunt useless office spaces.

If they pay like shit and treat people badly then they are afraid of remote because they are shit leaders. Remote work requires you to actually have a vision and know how to lead. How many VPs and CEOs have you seen that can do this? The list is short

I’ve noticed a bigger push into the office over the last year as well, since there’s so many freshly laid off employees to choose from. 🤷🏼‍♂️
