Sales savages that do consulting on the side

Question for those of you who started to do consulting work as a side hustle or maybe transitioned to doing pure sales consulting… Curious what led you down this path and how you went about it.


Any advice or words of caution about pursuing this?

What are you doing on the side? — running bound sales for a company that just did a total RIF. Creating orders, getting dogs, passing to fulfillment/service.

How are you finding these opps? — I maintained a strong relationship with my recruiter from my very first tech job. He helps close these types of roles in his network. One call later and I signed an agreement.

How do you monetize: hourly consulting, project based, or something else?

10% flat commission on gross revenue closed.

How did you go about running it by your main gig? Or did you not have to?

I don’t have to and I don’t use 9-5 time for this role.


I don’t view this as a second job or another gig to keep hush about. I legit open my email. Complete a few tasks. Shut my computer. All done after my kid goes to bed.

It just started, but it’s a product that is bought by commercial builders or management companies. Constant need.

Haven’t brought anything in yet as it’s brand new. Will report back.

Can you expand on that? How did you get to the point where opportunities for 10 hours of extra side project work fell on your lap? Is this something you have to actively pursue and prospect for or it’s more of an extension of your main gig?
