Sales to Enablement?

Been an AE for various companies for the past 3 years or so. I absolutely love sales don't get me wrong, but the company I'm currently with could use some major updates in their sales process. I would love to move over to the enablement side of things to redo the sales copy, update our trainings, and act as a sales communications manager between reps and management. I've enjoyed doing these things unofficially in previous roles but now want to make it my main focus.

My 1-year will be in July and that's when I would be eligible to potentially move departments. As long as I can keep my results up over the next few months there's a chance I'll be able to do it internally, but if there's no end in sight I may start looking elsewhere.

Curious if anyone else has made the move from AE to Enablement and how that went. If anyone is currently in Enablement I would love to know what I can do to show I have this ability despite not having done it officially before as well.

I've done enablement stuff and honestly love it. Building playbooks, running trainings, creating ICPs and Buyer Personas.

I would suggest getting some more exposure to that side of the business. Dip your toe in and ask lots of questions, maybe even see if there is a project you could jump in on.

Most Sales people look at Enablement like its Marketing- ie people who feel like they're in Sales but really aren't.  And both Enablement & Marketing feel they can tell Sales people how to be Sales people, even though the vast majority have never sold a thing.  Everyone has 20/20 vision of the past and its easy to be a Monday morning quarterback.

My advice - stick with selling.

I think it is common and a friend of mine did it recently.  Honestly, I think it is better when someone comes from sales because I have seen too many folks in enablement and readiness and they never sold before so I think your background would be a plus.

I have not. I understand where you're coming from, as I am in a place where our processes are whack as well.

I did it for a few months. did some management too, but lots of enablement. i built our training plan, playbook, and lots of other material from scratch. i enjoyed it quite a bit. nice to be able to pass down knowledge and put all that knowledge to good use. but no rush quite like bangin the gong and closing a deal!

I think this is fairly common, for AE's to move into enablement.

Especially if you have closed deals you have some credibility.

I would start by reaching out to your manager and let them know you are interested in this, then reach out to the person in charge of enablement and see what they are looking for.

Pretty basic
