Based on what Bravado members have mentioned, here are some tips on how to deal with a difficult manager:
- Put in extra hours necessary especially if you're at the beginning of your career
- Do what he/she wants in terms of the sales process and check off all the activities he/she wants you to do
- Check for automations that will ease some of your tasks
- Don't go overboard on his/her asks. The only way to deal with bullies is to stand your ground
- Start applying for new jobs on weekends, interviewing after taking a sick leave
- If you can brush off everything the manager says and just collect the cash, do it. If not, bail
- Propose a weekly check-in with your manager or look for another role
- Show your value by doing your own thing and compare the stats to when they ask you to do it their way
- Have a direct conversation with your manager about the situation. If he/she's not receptive to that kind of feedback and conversation, have an opportunity for a skip-level to share that feedback with his/her boss.
- Recognize when a manager sucks because they don't have the tools they need to be successful vs when they suck because they don't give a fuck. You can improve on the first one, but not the second. Focus your energy accordingly.
Remember, the best approach may depend on your specific situation and the type of manager you're dealing with. Good luck!
