Should I stay or should I Go?

I’ve been at my current company for 4 years and am thinking about leaving due to a 2.7% annual raise which is way lower than what I asked to be at this year back starting in Nov of ‘22.

Im in final stages of a tech company that if the offer comes through, would be higher than where I’m at currently both base and comp.

As I write this I realize it may be a dumb question with an easy answer (just go with the more $$) but would you recommend hopping and not feeling guilty about abandoning your current company?

I built the inside sales team from ground up and my departure would be a large impact (at least I thought so and hoped they’d pay me more)and am a bit hesitant and just feel bad for leaving which is stupid .

Always do what’s best for you and your family. There’s nothing wrong with taking a good offer.

That said, if you like your current company with the exception of the comp, you may want to bring up the offer and see if they can match it. If not, don’t feel bad about leaving for a better opportunity elsewhere. Leave things in good a shape as you can for the company, but take care of yourself.

Have you talked to you management about the other offer? You can just leverage that offer to get more money where you are now. All the cash, none of the guilt

I haven’t- just that I wasn’t happy with my comp and pushed for what I wanted.

I think regardless of comp I may at a point after 4yrs where I’m ready to make a move and them rolling out my comp just helped me solidify that decision.

Because- I feel if they countered and gave me what I originally asked for only AFTER hearing that I have another offer seems disingenuous to me. And the executive leadership would have neg energy around towards me after it

Don't burn the bridge and you can always go back. Best way to get a raise is to leave unfort.

You aren't abandoning the company, companies lay people off everyday

Family first. Loyalty will only take you so far, and it's usually not returned.

If there’s a career path at your current company that you are going after, maybe consider staying. Otherwise— unfortunately, it seems there isn’t much of a pay bump unless you jump ship in my experience.

Take care of yourself first. If you do decide to use the new offer as leverage just be ready to take that job if the current company doesn’t counter.

Going with more money is often not the best answer. Stability looks good on a resume
