Spin Selling?

have any of you read spin selling? I saw it's now in the commission store and I've heard good things, but curious if anyone here has strong opinions on it's worthy.

I liken SPIN to Sandler. It’s an out of date methodology that refuses to adapt to the current environment, but is both a badge of honor for sellers to admit they’ve read it/taken the training and a money maker for the publisher/trainers.

Definitely read it, but don’t waste points. You can likely rent it for free from your local library online or from a major library repository.

Great analogy and solid points.

Never split the difference is better.
Spin selling is pretty old school. Was *the* book in the 90's but now may seem dated. You can probably find a copy at your local thrift store for $1

If they turn it into a movie I am down.

Like all sales books classics, it may be getting dated. I enjoyed it though.

I imagine it will regain relevancy in 20 years when the new shiny sales books have lost their luster and someone "rediscovers" it

It's a classic for a reason, but should be adapted and not just taken at face value.
If you don't have any sales strategy, then this is better than nothing.

I haven't read it, but I have been through SPIN training at a company before. It's great for those just starting out.

I actually got spin training through a previous company. Wasn’t bad, I could see how it fits for longer sales cycle items, or selling to C level individuals, or enterprise sales. Didn’t really apply to my market or customer base at the time.

Worth a read - but like any methodology, take what works for you and discard the rest. There are other book recommendations here if you search - lots of posts with suggestions.

Worth the read. It's solid. Never split the difference should be right after that read if you haven't read that one.

I would agree with others here, now a days it seems very outdated.

This chart lacks the context and applicability of the book. I can show you a diagram of how to rewire a microwave, but if you don’t know how to use a soldering gun then you’re up shits creek without a paddle.

Yeah I know, but you won't be able to attach a whole book in a comment :)

They asked if you had read it and hand an opinion on it. You instead gave them information that is so irrelevant if you haven’t read the book.

It's a classic. That alone is good enough to read it. It also looks good in your bookrack

There are better sales books/methodologies, but it is really good for first time sellers as it begins the mindset shift from "pushing a product" to "solving a problem"

I picked it up to have it on the shelf, but have read it in the past. While not implementable now it is helpful to know where we as an industry have been...lest we decide to rehash the same ideas.

I really wanted the Jabra...but am never going to have that many points.
