Standing Desks

Just bought a standing desk. A little pricey at $430, but I love it. Found a really interesting article from Harvard about the benefits of having one versus sitting down while you work.

Love mine - I do most of my presentations standing up, old theater trick to boost confidence and voice projection

I agree - I have far more energy when I'm standing.

Absolutely - it makes a dramatic difference in all conversations. Also, vainly, better angles on the web cam to hide my covid weight.

What, slouching down in front of your laptop isn't doing it for you?

I use mine to go back and forth. Sitting down too much at my age is no bueno.

I am open to getting one in the future. How long have you been using yours?

Only about a week now but so far so good. Definitely have to break into it though because you’ll get more tired than you realize if you try standing the entire day.

Yeah, I could see my body not being happy with standing all day, which is a non-starter for me. Do you also have a tall stool so you can switch back and forth?

I'd invest in one as well. Switch back and forth. The standing desk is meant to keep you from sitting all of the time, not to make you stand all the time. I find it far easier to use a keyboard while sitting, but get more energy into my calls when I'm standing, so I'd switch back and forth.

Thanks for the insight! I hope you enjoy your desk!

I am very traditional, I like to sit and work but I get up very often from my seat.

I had an electric one in an office I used to work at and quite liked it, but now that I'm WFH I don't really see myself ever getting one.

It's definitely worth it. You'll notice a big increase in productivity. Especially after a big meal. It's also nice to just walk around and think in the middle of working so I guess it kinda boosts creativity as well.

I LOVE my standing desk. I had one of those cheap converters at my old office but it got me into it. For my home office I got a cheap electric standing desk and it’s great! I try to stand at the desk for a couple hours a day. Getting up every 45 minutes or so regardless. Stand up to throw some darts at the dartboard when I can. It’s great!
