Tech Losing "The War on Talent"

All over LinkedIn I am reading about people leaving Tech or choosing other industries over it. Today has "Tech losing talent to Wall Street" as one of the top trending topics. With "tech layoffs" being a trending topic for the past couple of months.

Clearly layoffs and hiring freezes are the main drivers in this change, but also other industries increasing pay/benefits to be more competitive.

Seems like for sales Tech and Med Device are still at the top, but is anyone else seeing a different industry where people are leaving towards?

LinkedIn seems to do a lot of click-bait stuff and this could be one of them, but what is everyone's thoughts on the big sales industry in the next 5-10 years?

i take everything linked in highlights with a huge bucket of salt.

"tech" jobs might be going to wallstreet but from a sales perspective? I HIGHLY doubt AEs are heading over to wallstreet.

The only thing I will say it seems like most of the layoffs in tech aren't the software engineers, but HR then Sales. At least this is what it seems like, but my network is mostly sales and hr so what I hear is biased.

I would have to assume not all of the reps are staying in tech and might venture out somewhere else

Just like how non-tech sales can make the jump to tech, I assume tech reps can make the jump to a different industry. Might not be in finance, but it could be any industry due to hiring freezes and layoffs

LinkedIn articles, posts and even LinkedIn 'News' are designed in a way that they need to create sensation. What better way to create sensation that to introduce fear around a particular subject.

I am forcing myself to see the other side of this ruckus. Yes, there are hiring freeze happening, layoffs happening. But again, there are a lot of companies that are hiring full swing today. The balance (to some extent) is still there.

While there are "Tech losing talent to Wall Street", I don't see Tech really dying anytime soon. If there is tech, there will be sales folks as well. So again, there will be a balance. People are also leaving real-estate world. It's not just one industry that usually takes the brunt.

LI is so silly. I studied finance at a target school, most of my friends still work in the industry. No one is entering IB/PE/HF after a few years in sales. Especially if you didn't go to a target school (aka have the pedigree, which is one of the lamest things about finance but I digress).

These articles are usually speaking about high level trends of graduating students and the industries they look to enter - regardless, any big shift away from tech into finance or vice versa is always temporary.

People wanted the next Google/Facebook/Amazon and that's where the money was going, which coincided with the Volcker Rule and a dramatic decrease in the high flying wheeling and dealing nature of 80s-00s Wall Street. Pandemic profits saw junior bonuses looking healthy again so the hype around that is making some news, but they're already on the way down soooooooo

If the economy keeps going the way it's going, the big industries are going to be canned food and ammunition.
