in my past -having forced video-on daily one on ones with the sales manager who adds no value to my day, sucks at his job, moans about his personal life that I could care less about, and asks how he can be there for me when all I need is for him to leave me TF alone.

My (soon to be ex) workplace isn’t shitty but the shittiest thing about it: 

SDRs are paid on meetings attended, not qualified opps. Most of their leads are a total waste of time for an AE to be talking to. SDR managers constantly at odds with sales managers over this shit. So annoying.

I understand that, but not all orgs work that way. Mine get credited for demo’s set. So they have to make it past discovery meeting. Anyway my point is why have SDR if they just add nonsense to the plate of an AE.

We don’t have a product, and I am expected to sell it.

Our claim-to-fame, big winner software product is less than 5% complete, and literally hardcoded to a single device. Not a single customer and the units they will deploy and monitor- ONE SINGLE DEVICE.

Imagine Instagram being accessible by literally just one person, but on top of that, only being accessible through a single phone/tablet.  Lose that phone and the software is useless.

No, you did not read that wrong. No, I am not exaggerating.

But hey, they pay me well, customers are relatively receptive, given the circumstances, and I’m very fucking persuasive.

Same, had this manager before, but then he wanted to join all my meetings with prospects and asked to be invited to all my calls and to send contact info of leads so he can put them in his personal crm. Then would always talk about if he gets demoted how great he would be at our jobs. Biggest douche I’ve ever met, always a one upper even in the middle of a meeting with a prospect when he’s supposed to be listening and learning but felt the needed to tell how he was on singled out or some random tv dating show while being married. I believe he still owes the team “outings” for hitting goals pre-pandemic.

I had a PIP for being 5 minutes late multiple times in a month. I was extra early every day leading up to the PIP. Turns out because I didn't clock in at my desk (was in the demo room) a couple of mornings, they don't consider that a perfect record.

Also before he quit, my marketing friend was screamed at and one of the owners refused to talk to him for weeks. All because they went through 2 former coworkers' Slack messages and didn't like what they said.

I think letting toxic shit bags keep getting promoted and never being held accountable is what can really fuck things up.

For what feels like the first time
Ever, this asshole manager who was a known bully, a liar and kind of a creep got fired. We also rarely fire people, lay offs yes but actual fired, it was a shocking move and done by a brand new EVP of sales.

That ripple effect has been the largest cultural change I’ve seen in my 14 year career.

Who knew. Getting bad talent out can actually make a Workplace better. I’m still in shock and doubt it will last but it’s nice for now.
