The state of Linkedin for Sales

Be honest here, does anyone actually use linkedin for networking/personal brand? I'm exclusively using it as a touch point in my multi-platform sequences for outbound with the intent that it will get me on their radar so they may be more likely to give me a chance when I call or answer my email.

When I look on linkedin these days I see three types of posts

  • Sales Guru who's absolutely fucking killing it apparently
  • Generic Poll/Inspirational story with no industry relevance but it games the algorithm
  • Lowly SDR who talks about the grind and hustle everyday (even though their job history is patchy at best?)

Content creators on linkedin are just garbage compared to other platforms, what's worse is that most of them are employed by some pretty decent companies and make good money, whereas we have twitch streamers and youtubers hustling for pennies dropping context with way more editing and work put into them, i'm not sure how it even evolved to this level at this point.

None of my targets and prospects generate content. They do like and comment on information that I share. You need to create a value add profile thatโ€™s pushing your product in a non โ€œbuy this todayโ€ fashion to gain success, in my opinion.ย

LinkedIn is a wank. Just Facebook under the guise of ~* professionals *~ I use it to look people up/occasionally creep someone, network, and apply for jobs when I'm looking.

I definitely use it for networking. Not really personal brand though - I know it works for some people, but I can't help but feel going hard on the personal branding's a bunch of wank.

Thought about transitioning from one industry into another for a while - used Sales Nav to find some leaders and buy them coffee to ask if they thought it was worth it.

Still great for that.

Hahahah mate the endlessly self-congratulatory content's truly exhausting from that platform. I just don't know what else to call it anymore ๐Ÿ˜‚

I find LinkedIn useful for networking. I use it as touchpoints as well but I never expect to get anything in return from that platform tbh.

Some of my C-Levels share content, some are silent, and a few comment here and there. I mainly use LinkedIn for research and to connect with people, not for conducting sales.

I find it helpful for finding potential companies and people to target, I work in the marketing space so post every so often just to keep in line with what my clients are doing on there, essentially mirror matching them through my own postsย

I use it for prospecting, but after I've done my research and know I just need to contact someone specific in an org.

I also use it to share our news and get some likes and learn what is going on in our industry and competitors. We're a B2B/B2G company so it's pretty much the only social media that would make sense for us.ย

My boss has some pie-in-the-sky ideas on marketing and lead generation lately so the odd posting there is how I keep him satisfied.

I use SalesNavigator far more often than LinkedIn, for account research purposes, mostly.

I make sure I'm connected on LinkedIn, but that's in case I need to find someone later.

I find browsing the feed very very boring.

If all you see on your feed are sales gurus, you're doing it wrong.

Unfollow all of the nonsense and replace them with your target market.

I sell to Aerospace & Defense and there are very open discussions taking place on LinkedIn and the comment section is a gold mine.

Why mess around with trying to guess what your prospects care about when so many will literally tell you straight up if you know where to look.

"I only use LinkedIn for (insert low-value reason here)" makes me cringe every time I see it.

I actually use it to sell and have a lot of success because I'm fucking good at it but not everyone can be as hot/sly as me

I use it to research people at a company, share updates from my company and product, add people to my network, and look for jobs.

The "personal branding" and BS from "sales gurus" is nauseating and, in my opinion, has no inherent value other than creating a false sense of success for the people posting.

All my biggest deals have come via LinkedIn and they have all been 6 figures min.ย  Recurring theme is none of the eventual customers posted anything.ย  I would probably do 1 post a month at most.ย  The biggest one I got which was $600k+ the customer found my post by searching through hastags and they reached out to me not the other way around.ย  We were pitching against by far the biggest guy in the market, I'm talking I'm at a company which employs 20 people against a company which has revenue of over $1.6 billion.ย  LinkedIn is a stinking pile of turd for the most part but if you use it right for yourself it's a powerful tool

I use sales navigator to find people, but that's about it. Sometimes I'll reach out to people, but nothing too much else
