There has to be a better lead distribution mechanism than round robin. Thoughts?

Having a territory assigned that you can then actively prospect into as well, whether it's geo or vertical or some combo.

I understand round robin to cover weird circumstances or to make sure reps aren't under- or over- utilized, but it does lead to interesting booms and busts across the board.

This is usually the easiest way, and definitely the easiest to automate.

Performance, vertical, or territory are also possible.

Performance gets rewarded. Do the work and get rewarded with gimmies. or just stick to territory.

maybe not. depends on what the company wants.

im assuming we are talking about inbound leads?

You could go territory based but depending on the industry that could be super hard.

with me there are 2 AEs. We each cover a specific type of organization. so if a lead comes in its clear who it should go to.

you could hand pick who gets what lead, but then favoritism comes into play so having a random round robin MIGHT be the best way to keep things fair. someone is bound to get screwed over eventually no matter what....but thats kinda life haha.

Geographic or performance based.
Otherwise, round robin is pretty fair.

I would say having territory be how the lead gets distributed would make the most sense.

I assume you have not worked in a company where multiple reps are assigned one territory.

I'm assigned by zip code so I avoid this issue.

I always push towards territory or vertical. That way there is some relevance

Yes, building better territories. I struggle with round robin because I have language skills. Round robin kills that for me.
