Thinking about going to AWS as an SDR…but I love my company

Been an SDR for about a year in my current role, I usually hit quota. an old friend of mine happens to be a top performing AE at AWS. one thing led to another and he suggested I apply for SDR (through his referral).

I've seen in repvue it's pretty good. does anyone have feedback on what it's like to work at AWS as an SDR?

my company has been great to me so far, so not sure if I should make a move

I've heard it's a lengthy interview process. Let us know how it goes.

Dunno but it doesn’t hurt to go through the application process.

In addition to the recommendations to go ahead and go through the process, I'd ask your friend to connect you with some SDRs at AWS so you can ask them directly.

Fantastic! If you can talk to more than one, that would be great. Otherwise, at least you’ll have some perspective.

Apply and go through interview process. It won’t hurt you and you can get a better feel for what it would be like. No reason to worry about contemplating until you are much deeper in the process

Amazon has a pip culture. No matter how good your team is 20-30% are always on PIP.

Money is good but you need to be aware the likeyhood of making it 4 years for the full comp isn't going to happen.

Try it out, you dont have to accept the role or continue to interview if its a bad fit

That would be a good feather in your cap. I wouldn't suggest a backward move to SDR, but as you're already one it's likely a good thing to consider.

How does the path to, and likelihood of, a promotion look like at your current gig?

I think it would take another 8 months or so. Definitely possible here. Was thinking though if I was going to sprout up as a commercial AE, could be a good option to do that at AWS. Again not making any abrupt moves but it crossed my mind.

More than likely I’ll stay here but I’ll see how our conversation goes later this week

There's an internal joke in Amazon:Revenue comes from eCommerce and profits from AWS.

If you're considering Amazon, AWS is the place to be. It'd be super interesting to see an SDR function in AWS though. Can't say it's going to be a cakewalk.

Good lick though, savage! Let us know how this one goes. Also, welcome to the War Room!
