This is wild!!

I was delighted when I got an interview for tech company. The interview went really well with the sales manager and he he immediately said I would like to put you through to the next round.

Perfect!! delighted!! I informed the sales manager I was away for 3 days for vacation no problem. HR booked in the Interview for my return.

whilst away on vacation they cancelled the interview and said they had moved forward with someone else!!!!

I was stunned!!! and no further explanation!!

This happens a lot unfortunately. Usually a sign of a disconnected culture or bad management. If they told you something they should stick with it but often don't. Could have been that the CEO's kid's friend wanted the job and they pushed them through. Who knows. I wouldn't dwell on it and realize that they most likely did you a big favor.
If this is how they treat applicants imagine how they'd treat you if you worked there? Probably with the same indifference. You'll get something else!

Sorry it happened to you, but not uncommon, I’m afraid. Pbc is right - qualify this as you would qualify a deal for timing, etc. I hope it was a great vacation.

Unfortunately this is true. It's uncool but also not uncommon.

Sorry this happened to you!

But as the old sales adage goes: “time kills deals”

P.s you most probably dodged a bullet. Imagine you joined and they reneged on promises they made re: compensation, commission, equity, product development etc.

Quick lesson: ask who you’re competing against AND qualify the timing. Disconnects between decision makers and the rest of the team are not uncommon. Oh; and fuck your vacations. Work till you drop. (Sarcasm heavily implied)

Dang sorry to hear this but it’s common. The other candidate probably got a competing offer and got the company to offer early

Who’s downvoting perfectly reasonable responses? Not supposed to be how the system works.

Sorry to hear that this company lead you to believe they were moving to the next round and then cancel like that. Really shows how unprofessional they are. I'm sure you will bounce back and get something even better. Truly I say all the best.👍👍

This happens when they are interviewing multiple people, and have to make (or made) an offer. The seat needs to be filled, and if you can keep interviewing, you do. Always move to have the meeting sooner, always.
