Tools to negotiating total compensation

I'm in process of a potentially lucrative job offer. I'm trying to think of tools to add to the negotiation of my total compensation.

What are your thoughts? anything to add?

4 weeks paid vacation.

4 weeks fully remote.

$10,000 signing bonus

guaranteed 10% raise in base after one year

$500 a year office supply stipend

$100 a month health and wellness stipend

are you sure about the “guaranteed” 10% raise in base after a year?

Yeah, that one seems like a stretch

Signing bonuses and accelerated option cliffs. The best tools in the bag.

Office and health and wellness stipends should be common place in todays world, but impossible to get for one person as benefits need to legally be available to all employees.

Assuming that you get medical/dental as part of the offer? 401(k) contribution?

Yeah I’m kind of taking those as something that will happen no matter what.

Not sure what you mean by "tools". Like sales tools - subscriptions to certain databases, etc?

No. Tools to negotiate total compensation. They offer me x amount and I say “okay I can take that but I want a, b, and c in addition to that”

Ok. I guess I don't understand then the leverage you have coming into this. That's quite a list of "asks" there. What do you plan to do when/if they say "no" to everything on the list?

What type of company is this?

In my experience (tech), it's hard for the hiring managers to be as flexible on the benefits as it's a one size fits all model for the whole company. I've asked for a meal allowance for lunch 2x a week (denied), phone bill reimbursement (they just got me a phone on their own plan, win), extra vacation (denied), and a signing bonus (granted, win).

It's easier for them to negotiate on the dollars and hard on the benefits.

The base raise isn’t as important as the territory, OTE, accelerators. I haven’t been at a non-unlimited PTO and non-remote job in over 5 years, so those are standard. I would focus on ramp with the other tangible things.

If you’re going to be traveling it’s worth asking for some perks there. It can make a massive difference. E.g. in flight wifi comped, first/business class on flights over “x” hours, min hotel rating, etc.

Between the hefty salary and unlimited vacation time, I took the gig! Didn’t need the other stuff.

To me I would ask for a promotion to a new leadership role after a 1 year as long as there's a vacant one as long as I met my quota during the year!
