toxic work place

Hi all,

I wanted to share my experience recently for any SDR's looking for a job.

I was looked over again for a promotion. I won't get into details, but due to corporate politics and family relations other individuals are able to get ahead of me. They don't look at stats or performance. They lie and string you along with corporate lingo until you burn out and find somewhere else to work. As long as you have a personal connection they'll move you up, if not, forget it.

If I can go back here's what I'd look for to avoid working for a toxic company such as mine and instead in an environment that encourages growth:

  1. their glassdoor review
  2. churn rate of reps
  3. how many sdr's were recently promoted to AE
  4. Ask for detailed career growth paths
  5. how many percentage of reps hit and maintain quota
  6. what is the work life balance of your company

This role has taken a big toll on my mental and left a bitter taste in my mouth, never the less these are lessons every sales rep can be aware of when navigating their sales career. Don't stay somewhere like I did for "cOmPaNY LoyALty" they can replace you, quick. Do what's best for your sales career.

Working at a place like that is basically a "right of passage" in a sales career. Most, if not all, of us will work at a place which is toxic and burns us out. When you look back on it, its actually a positive event as it helps you to navigate future mine fields.

Fuck man this is so true. Unfortunate, but true.

You're lucky if it's only one.

100% agree. Although I asked those questions of the last company I was with and they just said what they needed to say ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Donโ€™t beat yourself up too hard about taking the role. You did the best you could with the info at hand.

That said, yes, company loyalty is not a thing. You shouldnโ€™t stick around longer than is good for your own career. That said, I have no doubt youโ€™ve learned critical things that will help you long term AND leverage the heck out of your longevity for your next role. In an environment where reps get kicked to the curb quickly, your ability to stick around for a while speaks to your value (or should be something you leverage that way moving forward).

Best of luck to you!

Sorry to hear this - but unfortunately, companies like this are so damn common nowadays. Always have your radar on for red flags and whatnot.

Sorry to hear this. On the plus side, you now know what toxic looks like and can stay far far away from it
