Using Common Advice in A Different Way When Job Hunting and Prospecting

So I like to reach out direct to the VP sales, Sales Managers, essentially, the person/s that I can find that will have a direct impact on the role.

Sometimes, it seems like everyone lives on the other side of the world, so lets hit up the VP and Sales Managers anyways.

Sometimes, it's very clear this person and not that person should be chatted with.

So today, I sent out a message to a VP sales, outlining why I would be a good fit. Threw in a touch about why their company, and also made it applicable to me and the JD at the same time.

At the end of the message, I flat out asked the VP if he would refer me to the position so I can help him make his sales goals. Lets just eliminate any and all ambiguity, set expectations and have clarity from the get go. Never mind the email subject line is very clear that I am prospecting for this open role.

It might just go to spam.

It might get ignored.

He may read it and f'n love it.

Everybody views this stuff differently, even as sales people.

But I figured.... We always talk about asking for a referral. Why not just ask anyways, instead of hoping your email was good enough to land and they'll know what to do as a next step.

I saw it immediately and I just left it to see who would have the first smartass comment. You really ran to that opportunity, didn't you?

I find it odd that a lot of sales people don't like the direct approach. It's just us sales brahs talking......

IMO, itโ€™s always best to be direct. I know I appreciate it.

Good luck!

If I get this email, Iโ€™m not sure I reply, but I love it. How you gonna ask for the money if you canโ€™t ask for the job. โœŠ

Yeah exactly.

OldCloser. If you like what you read and you thought it was applicable to the role you are seeking to fill, would you refer me to the hiring manager/recruiter?

IDK man. Someone might be unsure about doing it when they don't know you, but at the same time VP's and others do it without being asked to as well.

Iโ€™m not sure if I would go out if my way to influence the process. But when your name come across as a candidate, Iโ€™ll remember and influence at that point.

To the point, no bs. Two outcomes - response or no response :)

Exactly.

I feel it works best for me. Same way when asking sales people for informational sessions or to ask some questions about the role one on one.

Out of 10 people, maybe one or 3 get back to you. 1 -3 of those do a real phone call and will offer the referral.

Not everyone has any desire to help a stranger out. I think it's that simple.

Love the reaching out ... the higher the better... however, initially keep it focused on THEM. Just like a sales call (which this is) NO SELLING until we understand their pain, they understand their pain, and we know our solution is a fit. Then present.

How do you keep yourself motivated under pressure? Yes, I've heard of the usual responses like "finding your why" & "aligning yourself", etc. But I just want to get to the meat of the solution. Are there any specific tactics you guys use to keep yourselves motivated?
